No they're the same mic but don't purchase it there!! shop around for places on line ...shopping.com or equivalent save yourself $40.+

Occasionally you'll find some strange deal like this at musicians friend where they will sell one piece of gear for a price, but you can also find it elsewhere on their site with some accessory or an additional piece of gear for the same price or less.

Example: Once they listed a gibson echoplex for something like $900, and then had a separate list for the same gibson echoplex WITH the foot controller for $700.

I agree with moresound that usually shopping around is the best thing to do. However in this case if you need both mics that's not a bad deal, if you don't need the extra mic then you can find the 2003 cheaper.

They're NOT the same mic. MXL used to have a relationship with 797 Audio, who made their original 2003 mic. They discontinued having 797 do manufacturing (or OEM) and had another place copy the general design. In truth, the newer "A" mic specs out better than the original. Its a bit flatter in it's frequency response.

Thank you Phil. This was confirmed in a recent email from MXL. How'd ya' know?

peace

Let's just say its a hobby of mine. I've been studying microphones and their technology for a quite a while now. I also have some friends "in the know", plus I keep my eyes open.
