Is there a device that will do this?

Slowing becoming un-noob.
So I'm using a Firewire mixer. The mixer doesn't record whatever is plugged into the Aux channels, so I can't use an Equalizer and such that I have in my studio.
Is there a like 8-channel rackmount item that will be placed between the mics and the mixer in terms of chain, and that will allow me to plug in devices such as my EQ to be used as Aux.

If that makes any sense. Thanks for the help.
If you need me to clarify better, let me know and I'll try.

Thanks!

Elliot

i assume your mixer is plugged into a daw. why are you trying to add eq before the sound hits the daw? it would make more sense to apply eq in the box after your tracks are laid. perhaps i'm misunderstanding your question?

Right now I have No EQ basically going into my daw. I would like to be able to apply EQ before hand to really get the sound nice before it goes into the daw then EQ it once it's in there to make it even nicer. If that makes sense.

So is there a product that would allow me to do this? or no?

no, what i'm saying is, you should never apply eq before the daw. you achieve a "nice" dry sound with mic selection, placement, and performance. then apply eq in the daw.

you should never apply eq in between the mic and daw. it's just one of those rules of recording!

a lot of people (me too when i started) think that they can "eq" their way to good sound. it's never worked, and never will.

i know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but believe me, you'll save money and frustration by doing it this way! :)

Does the mixer have channel or mains inserts? That's where you'd patch a device like an EQ or compressor. The auxes are more for time based stuff like reverb sends or fold back.

EQ's not going to work on a mic or instrument level signal if you're using external pres you can always patch it between the pre and the mixer... without the external pre your only real option is the inserts... You could use a completely wet send... but you won't have eight of those (even if you use all your aux and effects busses
