Is the presonus firepod worth buying? I have a M-Audio MobilePre right now. How does the firepod compare to the firebox?

Firepod is excellent value, esp if you pick it up with other stuff thrown in.

If you need 8 preamps, it's hard to beat in that price range. Even the 400F only has 4 pres.

Firebox is good if you only need a couple of pres

I`ve been a happy firepod owner for 6 months now.
Its great for its value, easy to operate, you even get a cubase se\le included.
that will get you started. :)

FirePod is particularly good if you get in on all the deals. At least when I bought it a few weeks ago, I found a place (JBSound, JDSound, I forget which) selling it with a free AT2020 mic, mic cable, and a lousy mic stand. Then, I got in on the (limited time) offer to get the free 4-channel headphone amp from Presonus, all on the same purchase. Something like $250 worth of free gear with purchase. If I sold all the free stuff and my old Delta 1010, I'd just about have covered the price of the interface.... :D

Anyway, if you want to get in on that deal, I'd hurry up and check into it. I don't know how long the 4-channel headphone amp deal lasts, but I'd guess no later than the end of the year, assuming that it's even still on now.

The Firebox is a very nice device. Drivers and software are all robust and simple. Sounds good too

I just got one off of musicians friend and got some son headphones, aplitube software, an mxl 992 and a studio clock for free. Plus if you poke around places you can find the pdf to mail in and get that headphone amp for free.

I also just got off of musicians friend and i cant wait to get all the free stuff that comes with it. Thanks for the help with the free presonus headphone amp and for those who are still looking here is a link (Headphone amp form ) with the form to get the headphone amp. But you had better hurry the deal ends Jan 1st! -Jingleheimer-

I had firebox and just traded in with a EMU 1820m couple of days ago, firebox was very good but EMU is just another beast, huge difference when comapring imaging, clarity and specially high freqs are very well defined and better preamps as well, if you are just need two preamps I would suggest to take a look at this card, and yeah its working solid so far no problems whatsoever.

What kind of computer system?

I have:
Amd 64 3000+ winchester core
Asus A8N SLI MB with nvidia ultra4 chip
1gig Elixir RAM
7200 RPM WD
ATI PCI express video
used Sonar 5 with Asio

how does the firepod compare to sound quality of other interfaces and devices in the price range up to $800? Are there any others that produce cleaner and better sound quality?

maybe lot of people will disagree with me here but in my opinion EMU 1820m sounds the best in sub $1000 category My freinds have firepods, Layla 3Gs, M-Audios and other brands, and they do agree with me when it comes to pure sound quality, but they get nervous when they hear that EMUs cards depends on your computer hardware a lot like on some system they will work like a charm and on some they will give lotta problems. so I would suggest that if you are interested in these cards then maybe research and find if anyone uses em with the system you have.
