Greetings all.
I recently tried loading 4 sound cards in my machine, And I was having some problems. One of the 2 newer cards (both ESS, bottom of the line) wouldn't record at all. The other would record all fuzzy. I know how to set levels and whatnot, so I know that wasn't the problem. Anyways, I finally took the cards and my box to this one dude that pretty much told me my computer wasn't good enough run multi track.
It's a 450 K6-2 with 64 megs of RAM (don't worry, upgrades are in the planning. Anyone wanna buy some 72 pin SIMMs from my old system?). Now, what's the problem here? It's a mass produced NEC. Is the motherboard junk? Would I be able to run a Delta 10/10 or a Terratec 8 in/8 out?
I'm using Cool Edit Pro 1.2a and Sound Forge 4.5.
Any help or advice would be much appriciated. Thanks.

While that computer wouldnt be the mack-daddy of multitrackers, you should be able to get some tracks up and going.....maybe if you could post a clip of a "fuzzy" track youve recorded it might help.....

You should be able to get a few tracks out of your computer.

k-6 2

I am recording with a 350 MHz K-6 2 using an aardvark 24/96 soundcard. I use n-track recording software. I only have a small ultra ATA smartEIDE Harddrive.
I can record four tracks at a time and playback 8-10 tracks. The problems start when you start adding effects, reverb and EQ. I can only playback one track with reverb on it. This means I have to record the reverb on each track one at a time before I can mixdown.

Because of this I am in the process of upgrading. I would not spend ANY money upgrading the K-6

Thanks for you're feedback.
Right after I posted this, I saw the other thread about the K6-2. Guess I should just get a new processor and board.
The guy I bought the ESS cards from was the one that messed with it and told me it wouldn't work. He took them back and gave me my money back, so I can't post a clip of it.
As far playing back tracks, I've played like, 30 or 40 some odd tracks at the same time. I guess a lot of progs add the effects like an insert. Cool Edit actually modifys the wav, so it doesn't have to think harder when playing tracks with effects.
I've seen some decent deals on Durons. Would they be able to record 8 tracks at a time? How do they stack up compared to the Athalon? I'd like to stick with AMD because they're much less expensive than P3's or P4's. And what kind of board would be best?
Thanks again.
