gimmi your mic!
Hi there --

one channel of my A&H 16:2DX Mixwizard is about 6dB lower in output that the others, and there is excessive noise on that channel, too. I used that channel as one of my outputs from the soundcard.

Could it be that the channel is blown? If so, what can I do to fix it?

Thanxx!

The fader could be shot or dirty, a jack could be dirty. It might be the channel electronics, but something like that usually results in no output at all.

First thing I do is run a 1/4" jack in and out of all the jacks a couple times. Then do the same with Deoxit on it if that doesn't work. Wiggle the fader side to side with signal running and see if the level changes. Get some Deoxit and MCL from CAIG, clean the jacks and fader, use the MCL to lube the fader after cleaning.

If that doesn't do it, it's time to open the thing up and look for obvious loose connections, or take it to the shop. Replacing a fader is pretty easy, if that turns out to be the problem.

Thanks for the tips! I'll try that and see what happens.

Cheers

Check the connection on the ground bus wires if you have the case open. There are two sets of 'em that run through all the cards, you'll see 'em.

It is very easy to replace the faders in the MixWiz if that is the problem.

I just figured out that it must be the fader: when I press on "post fader levels" everything's fine (all channels have the same level, no distortion, hum, etc). I tried to clean the fader but without success. Unfortunately I can't even open the damn mixer and check because I don't have the right tools to open the screws *grrrr*.

Would you suggest that I just order a new fader and install it myself (can't be that difficult) or shall I bring it to the service dealer? Aby estimate how much a new fader would be?

Thanks a lot!

It might not be the fader. I had the exact same problem when I modded my mixer and had a bad ground on one channel, the PFL made that go away too. Or it could still be something else. The fader might just have a bad solder joint, for example.

The fader itself is cheap, but it's a shot in the dark at this point.

Thanks, Mizz! You are always here when help is needed - phantastic! :D

I'll see if I can open the mixer and find the problem. If not, it goes off to the repair dealer.
