Is mini disc comparable to mp3...

I've been doing some research on my old out-dated mini disc recorder which uses ATRAC recording and causes the final recording to be 5 times less than the original source. Even though it mini disc sounds good to my ear, mp3 also has a loss ratio involved and I was wondering if recordings from a mini disc are better or worse than mp3. I'm concerned about this because I use mini disc for my performances in singing and doing shows. I start with a Fostex vf160 and use ADAT to transfer from the 160 to mini disc. Anyone with answers I would appreciate. Thanks.

MODS - you might consider moving this to a more useful section like Digital Recording.

minidisc is better quality than mp3, I would stick with minidisk over mp3 anyday, I only use my ears and intuition but to me it sounds better, forget what the specs say.
