Is Layla lonely without a mixer?

I currently have a trinity, mpc-2000, computer with logic, but nothing else. After doing some research, I have decided to go with the Echo Layla. Good choice? I don't have enough money to purchase Pro Tools but I would like something professional. I don't have a mixer and to tell you the truth, I don't know how this setup is supposed to work.

Should I connect my instruments and mic's to the line in on Layla? If so, can I record the different inputs to seperate tracks in Logic while playing everything at once (ie. Trinity goes to track 1, mpc goes to track 2). Currently I am controlling everything through midi but I want to be able to run effects so I don't mind recording it into the system as Audio. I ultimately want to add effects to the audio tracks using Logic. What I still don't understand is where the mixer plays a part. Does the setup seem logical? I hope the post isn't too confusing...very long night.

Layla vs. the world.

I Love my Layla! You will too!
I Know guys who have no hardware mixer. They go direct out from #'s 9 and 10 into thier powered monitors (or amp then mon's).
The reason I like the monitor is sometimes in a crash, i get a ton of loud noise, which can deafen in the phones or jack the speakers. I can get to the volume and crank it down phsyically in between 47 and 544 milliseconds, latency of course depending on my alcohol input.
If no external mixer, you should (I guess) have a limiter placed pre amp/speakers or be ready with the totally cool software mixer included, which btw makes everybody jealous with its auto-level set function.
Set up 8 tracks of drums, hit the autolevel (whatever its called) button, and tell the drummer to crank away. Then unclick the level set button and all tracks are optimized according to projected performance. ALL AT ONCE. it is so much more convenient than my lexcore2 card.
Internal software mixer has cool monitor routing options an monitor faders too for cool monitor mix.

Thanks for the response RJ. I've decided to get a Lexicon MPX500 for fx. Can I use one of Layla's outputs as a send? Also, which limiter would you recommend and where would I put it in my setup? I would rather pay more than to sacrifice quality. Thanks.
