Had a conversation with a friend -
she's a sound engineer that has been working with MAC for some time and she claims that it's much better than PC -
saying MAC is MUCH faster and 99% stable.

How many of you moved from PC to MAC and how this improved (or not) your work with music software ?

faster..lol yea right...
more stable.. not if you use 2000 or Xppro :)

stick with pc..upgrade yours if it isn't...

PC VERSUS MAC

Is a very hot and touchy subject. I've done a whoooole lot of forum searches to make a decision and it remains about 50/50.
Mac users prefer macs and claim superiority, PC users do the same thing. There are many arguments, flame wars and good points, but the only thing that really swayed me was that the PC was a less expensive option for me.

Even though I was swindled into a defective MOBO and now need to upgrade, it'll still cost me less.

I am not really a pro, but i am building a PC and I can tell you that with $1800 you can build a big ass kickin´axe wieldin´ stemain´system, and with that money you cant get a G4 wich is suposedly Macs top of the line. The one thing that no one can deny is that if youre talking about compatibility between studios and if if you want to take your stuff to a pro studio to finish, edit or whatever, 99% of the time they use MAC, so in that issue Mac users have an advantage. You can export your Pro Tool session and take it to any studio and they can work with it, take files from a PC app and theyll spit on you......

Wow!

I wasn't aware of that, what if I take it to my friend who owns a MAC and import the session onto his comp before I take it to a studio?

as i said, i am going with pc because the price over benefit is better with pc, If you wanted, you could export your tracks from whichever software your pc uses as wave files and you would have to import them as such into the mac, the thing is that it is a bit painstaking if you have a project say with 35 tracks, having to do all the exporting, importing, converting......but it can be done, a bit awkward but it is doable

Ok

Sometimes I gotta do it the hard way (hard headed since a kid):D :D :D :D

If your serious about getting into Macs here's some good sites to get your feet wet:

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/

http://www.barefeats.com/

http://www.macgurus.com/index.php

http://everymac.com/

http://www.macreviewzone.com/

http://www.macobserver.com/

And , of course: http://64.58.168.25/

One word of advice if you decide to take the plunge: never buy a loaded machine from Apple. Get a bare-bones machine with whatever processor(s) you want and add RAM & drives from the aftermarket. You'll get more for your money.

I'd go for Mac

lol i hope that isn't real...
our power Dual G4 is nice, its a dual 1000mhz or dual 800..and it cost to much fu**in money... my partners run logic 5, DP3, and sometimes nuendo on it... is it fast..yes,is it stable....yes, its it quiet...no...does it get a good job done...yes

but my athlon XP2000+...is it faster than the G4..yes...just as stable under xppro...YES...handles more...yes(photoshop 7, logic, nuendo, what ever) was it much cheaper HELL YEA...is it quiet..it wasn't, but it is now....

these days pc's are just plain better...with new chips comming out that are 3.4gig and shit...why switch to mac...i'm not taking anything away for the power G4, but for over$6500 with 22inch flat monitor($2200) thats just crazy.. you can build what...4 to 6 Pc that will be better..

I'd rather have one $6500 Mac than 6 PC's. I must be crazy.:p

LMAO downside!:D

Dual 1gig G4-$6500

AMD XP-2100+ $799 with..
256 MB PC2100 DDR (upgrade to as much as the board will handle)

· ASUS A7V333 DDR 333

· USB VER. 2.0

· 80GB 7200RPM ATA100

· 64MB GEFORCE4 DDR AGP

· 36X12X48 CDRW

· 16X DVD ROM & 3.5”FDD

· 56K V.92 F/MODEM

S/B LIVE 5.1 (DIGITAL)

· ATX 400W CASE

· KEYBOARD MS & SPK

then get a 21inch monitor or dual 19inch($90-150each)and a 120gig 8mb cache drive($150-215) that computer will be much better than the mac,.

but if you got money like that, hook me up.. i tern it around with extra in less that 6 months....

See, I told you it was a touchy subject

I'm not going to say one is better than the other, one is less expensive, but truly they're both great machines and posess different qualities. You'll eventually have to decide for yourself, but the good part is you get lots of good information to help in your decision.

Hell yes

A 1000 mhz G4 processer will beat the f*$% out of a 1000 mhz AMD or P4 or whatever....
The biggest issue will be OS X for mac. Its the most stable OS I've ever used and NEVER crashes......plus theres a new Rack mountable server version....
ease of use....and of course the speed!!

1 gig processors are old news for PC's though...intel has come out with a 2.4 gig processor and AMD has DUAL boards that can hold 2 Athlon MP 2200+...and its cheaper...the only reason i think u should choose MAC over PC is if u want to use Pro Tools or Digital Performer...all the other programs more or less are designed for PC

i've been building computers for years, and some partners of mine in denver own computer stores and stuff..macs aren't faster point blank...will be faster than the p4 yea, they don't perform that great, the new ones are better.. athlonXP are the fastest chips out...the hammers will be even faster

Are Athlon MP's just athlon XP's wit the ability to work as a dual setup?

So Gilwe

What do you think so far, is it worth it to you ?:)
