Is it possible to have a guitar that...

...have the sound of a Telecaster on clean, sound like a Gibson standard on distortion, have sustain like a gibson too with a price of let say under 1000us??

I think it's impossible because everyone would have at least one of these guitars but...

My point is that I love the clean sound of the Tele a lot but I can't stand the sound when I crank the drive. I like almost everything of the Gibson but I can't afford it!!!

So is there something coming close to my request???

I tought about it but I'd like to hear some comments on this kind of experimentation before buying a tele....
 
Good...I know that these kind of Tele exist (I could'nt find it!) but I wonder if the clean sound is as good without the "soap" pickup!!??

I have to stop reading about the Godin LGX because I don't have enough to buy it right now and I'm extremely interested !!! My friend have an older godin and it doesn't sound so incredible and that is why I stayed away from Godin for a while but the LGX is another storie.

Bruce, if it doesn't bother you, I'd like to know if you own a LGX and if so how much did you pay and where did you buy it... just to have a price comparison.

I do own one and it's become my primary guitar, simply because of the playability and the tonal range.... everything from single coil to humbucker to piezo-acoustic.... in addition, you can also get one equipped with a built-in midi pickup in addition to all the others...

And although I still love my Strat and Guild Starfire, the Godin LGX is one sweet first reach!

It retails in Canada for around $1500...
 
Here is a Samick guitar I tried out a while back and promptly put it on my short list. I had been looking for a bargain on this one and finally got one off ebay for cheap ($290). I'm up to 6 guitars and if I buy anymore it will require a major gift for the wife. (It's like paying a warlord tribute) Otherwise I'll have to cull the herd.

Anyway:
Set neck, Duncans and grovers. Well built. What I liked about this is the coil-tapping feature on the humbuckers.

I remember a guitar from the mid eighties with a les paul body and a tele neck. telle pickups and electronics with a firebird neck pickup.

Billy Squire used them on the emotions in motion videos.

I cant seem to recall the name of the manufacturer.
 
darrin_h2000, was it made by carvin?......I dunno......I'm one of the few people that really liked Billy Squier..........but I can't remember even one video...........gibs
 
Carvin Id remember

I met Billy at my local Borders bookstore, He was touring them with an acoustic. Met him afterwards he was a decent guy, told him I had seen him with piper back in '78. He drew a large crowd for that bookstore.
 
yeah, I think his last record was totally acoustic.....I guess it died, though.........I don't know why I remember something about him using a carvin........long years ago.....gibs
 
A buddy of mine had a Carvin that had a pickup switch between single and double coil.

that sounded like a strat and hummer depending on what you had it set to...and it used the same electronics - not two seperate pickups.

Ill probubly never find out what kind of guitar that was, The model I spoke of was the only one made by that company. I remember the carvin hubub but this was no carvin.
 
Ok, here is the answer to your problem. You can get a guitar with a single/single/humbucker set up with a tone knob on the rear humbucker in order to get a thicker tone. Go with Seymour Duncans and you won't be disappointed. Put a strat pickup in the neck and a tele pickup in the center with a humbucker with capabilities to have a coil tap. Or look into Carvin guitars, because they have great quality guitars at amazing prices, with tons of wiring options. The woods you choose will also affect the way the guitar sounds, but a mahogony body with a maple top would be your best bet.
