Is it just me, or is this insane?

Is it just me, or is putting 3 Nexo PS15 Loudspeakers and 2 Nexo LS1200 Subwoofers on one Crown K2 amp insane? I've argued with this guy who's installing this stuff for a while with no solution. Somehow he thinks that's only a 4 ohm load. If each speaker is 8 ohms, that would be like 1/4 ohms or something like that. I'm not sure I'm doing the math right but it still sounds rediculous to me. Is there something I have overlooked?

What is the impedance of each speaker, and is he wiring them up in series or parallel? Is he bridging the amp across two channels??

They're all 8 ohms. And I assume he'd do em in parallel, not series. I guess he could be putting the PS15's on one channel, and the LS1200's on another, and that would make it 2 ohms on one channel and 4 ohms on the other. From the way he said it, I took it he was going to use all five in parallel and have active crossovers instead of tri-amping everything. Which is how it is currently. But now that I think about it, the 4 ohms and 2 ohm way doesnt seem like that much of a stretch. He just didnt explain it very well. And it's freaking me out cuz no one is checking up on this guy. We just assume whatever he says is right. But the pastor and I went to lunch the other day and I explained my concerns as to getting second opinions on things and it seems that they will in the future. But that's beside the point. Even with that configuration, is that still going to be efficient?

If the amp can handle loads less than 2 ohms (load varies with frequency, so the nominal rating is really just an average), you should be fine...

Bridging means strapping the 2 channels together into one channel (with usually double the power availability), but the amp has to be spec'd to be run that way.

And if it's all bridged together.... I don't see how the active crossover will work. You need separate amps.

I looked through the specs and the K2 is able to push 1,250 watts per channel into 2 ohms. Nexo recomends 1000-1800 watts into 4 ohms for 2 PS10's. I didn't check the subs and I didn't completely do the math. That's a pretty beefy power amp and depending on the crossover situation it may be plenty.

It looks like the PS15's also have built in active crossovers so you may be able to loop the power through them onto the subs. That is the impression I got from reading the specs but don't take my word for it. If that is the case then the K2 can put out 1500 W @4ohms per channel in bridged mono mode. That would be plenty of power.

Do you actually have a crossover or is it the PS15 TD Controller that they sell for the speakers? It seems like it's required for some reason. I can't quite figure out what they are doing with the controller and crossovers but I haven't used too many exotic PA's and we've exhausted my free research patience.

If you want a serious second opinion on this you'll need to pay somebody who's familliar with the system. Or just call the manufacturer and ask their opinion.

I just realized you said 3 PS15 speakers. Is that correct? That does start to sound a little screwy if it's all on one amp. Is that 3rd speaker a monitor or something?

Yeah i think its gonna be fine. The controller deal is supposed to correct for time smear, since speakers aren't flat in shape. I'm not really sure how it works, or if it even has any kind of noticable benefit, but I'm told it's worth the extra thousand or so bucks it costs. It also has a crossover for the subs built in to it which would not be an active one. As far as the third PS15 goes, it will probably serve as more of a monitor for the person at the console, but won't be on a separate amp.
