Do you spend more time and money buying gear, rather than working on recording? Have you lost track of the basic purpose of recording or do you just have an addiction to spending or acquiring gear?

Until im willing to make the major investments to get not only more gear but also acoustic treatment, im going to try my best to make the most out of what I have currently have.

Hopefully by learning to master what I already have, if a time comes when I can comfortably afford better gear I will be ready to take full advantage of it.

Somestimes you just have to stop and think - that $500 microphone isnt going to make your beginner guitar and untreated room sound any better.

However if you really enjoy recording and can afford it, why not? I know I would if I could!

Yes. No. Whatever.

no i do this for a living, i spend plenty of time recording, but that doesn't mean i don't spend an EXCESSIVE amount of time and money buying new gear.

I would point the mic at the cone of the speaker, not at the dust cap, and move it back to taste.

Oh wait, I thought this was a thread about recording technique. Oops

Nothing gives more satisfaction than new gear. Anyone can record a hit record, but not everyone has the latest, greatest gear. More is............more. Always go high end and spend every available dollar, after all, they didn't invent Kraft Macaroni and Cheese for nothing.

see for me, it's the exact opposite. I've spent $100,000 on silver cabling because some guy told me to. So now my behringer mixer sounds better than ever. Next i'm going to change all my cable connections to gold so that my radio shack "vocal" mic can record platinum records for me.

You must be into metal(s).

You'd be better off spending that money on a new (good) guitar & room treatment.

fuck recording..that's so borish. I thought the purpose of a studio is to impress chicks that you met at the AIDS infested dance club. You learn something new every day.. huh.

No, I spend all my time asking posting dumb threads at home recording forums. Gear is too expensive, and recording is just such a hassle.

I confess, I'm a gear junkie. I too record for a living but if I could make money buying gear all day, I just might trade.

I prefer just responding. I'm actually to lazy to post.

I spend most of my time recording after all that iw what you're supposed to do right? Next I spend most of my time fixing gear that breaks down. Next I spend my time surfing tranny websites. Next I spend my time driving in traffic. Then next I spend my time cleaning the studio and doing inventory after each band leaves to make sure they didn't rip anything off. Then next I spend my time with my dealer. Then finally next in line I spend my time researching and purchasing equipment.

who needs the comedy channel when ya got this forum ..........as Forrest Gump says: When I was in China on the All-American Ping Pong team, I just loved playing ping-pong with my Flexolite ping pong paddle.

We're supposed to record with this stuff?

Who knew?

i've been after the gear that's going to capture all the subtle nuances of a fart hitting a snare drum. that's really all i'm after. i don't know why you all waste your time with the whole music thing.
