is ASE/EBU = regular mic cable?

Same goes for using unbalanced analog cable with RCA connectors for SPDIF connections. The fact that the connectors are the same does not mean they are built for the same function.

Well if there is enough interference from HF reflections, it tends to be fairly obvious in the signal. That's the great beauty of digital, it either works or it doesn't :D I use a 12" regular ol' RCA cable, and nothing seems to mind.

I expect that cable companies don't publish the impedance of cable intended for analog mics as the impedance rating is for RF, and it would only confuse AF types who would think their cable was going to pad their signal or something.

Yeah..............I have NEVER had a problem either using regular ol' mic cable for AES, and even using RCA cable for S/PDIF. That is NEVER had a problem.

NEVER...........

Ever..........

Notta.........

Will never happen.

Most of the cable market is a scam.

with S/PDIF I just use a composite cable with RCA jacks....you know, those yellow video ones you get with every single DVD player, TV, computer, video game console or any other electonic you've purchased. Cheaper than going out and buying a so-called S/PDIF cable

*In theory* the yellow cable is the correct impedance, and the audio ones are wrong. But it's all good for me
