that's the effect. what was the mechanics in that effect? was it a variation of delays, reverb, chorus? it has this artificial digital voice effect to it.
same thing happened to Jill Scott on the Roots single.
they re-recorded it using Erica Badu because she was hot, and having her on the track would put The Roots out to a larger audience.
in the tupac version there is a backward reverb... or whatever its called when a gated reverb vocal seems to ramp up as its being spoken. they do the same thing in the JayZ version but the effect isn't done as well.
is that what you are trying to acheive? a reverse reverb? where the vocals or whatever sound kinda builds up before the note actually hits? if so this is pretty simple to do...and will be done in the post-recording phase of course
1) take the track or section you want the effect in and reverse it so it's playing backwards.
2) add reverb to the reversed track...you will have to play around with this and get the kind of reverb you like or perhaps the kind that sounds most like the song you are talking about.
3) reverse the track again so it's playing forward again...sounds pretty cool huh.
If you want the artificial digital effect you would use Antares Auto-Tune..it's getting alot of use these days to make people sound semi robotic
you were right on time with that muskgrave, thanks for the tutorial, that was really cool of you. cross, i appreciate you bringing the reverse reverb explanation to light for me. thanks to everyone who took the time out to view and or respond to this thread.
are there any other music out there with that particular technicue?, or is it something that pac did and would be frowned upon if used in a song unless it is a remake of course?
You can find that reverse reverb effect in sound forge 7+. I've used it a couple of times. Just sellect the part of the track and apply the effect. Easy...
