Is a mic cable really necessary?

LOL!

This is a great thread. :D

In truth, you actually don't need a cable of any sort. Just use one of those hand held tape recorders with the little mic built in. ;)

As usual, I notice that many of you are unable to stay on topic. But this man has the answer. Recorder with a built in mic. But be sure to get a digital one. 'Cause I'm sure you'll want your recording to be cd quality.

They couldn't call 'em digital unless they were REALLY REALLY GOOD.

Mishagolin, that sounds great, but how do I attach the tubes?

I have a mic, but before I go spending all that money on a cable, I was wondering if everyone here thinks it's really worthwhile (?) Will it really improve the quality of my recordings?
any ideas?

Thanks.

I have started plugging my mics directly into the back of my preamps to avoid the wires.
Yes it can get tiresome holding the preamps up for long periods of time but i save time at the gym working out as well as triple.. no wait make that quadruple my signal quality... It is more.. wait make that WAY more than amazing.

I am surprised more people arent doing this.

Is there any other way I might be able to get around it? I was thinking maybe I could send the sound to my mixer using telepathy. Or maybe I could jerry-rig something using twine ?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

OMG! Excellent question...probobly not but you should experiment. I wouldn't shell out for the expensive ones...you could make your own from speaker wires and solder them direct to the mic and mixer. You'll get maximum performance using a Behringer mixer. You sound like a pro...keep up the effort and let us know how it works out. :D

As I read these posts I stand jaw dropped in utter shock. It seems no one has considered the obvious and many advantages of using.....dental floss....over twine. You would be able to clean your gums at the same time as you cut your most inspired vocal tracks. I had been wondering if singers with bad breath sing worse than singers good breath as there are alot of funky vocals out there you know. Maybe with a quick clean of the teeth the situation could be improved.

You don't need that cable bro, it's all marketing hype.

Yea, but does it have tubes? I hear in order to sound warm, I need to buy all tube gear.

Is this true? If I bought an ART tube MP or Behringer tube ultragain to go with it, would that help?

Yeah that is true, but the the Thinksynths tube emulator does and excellent job and would save you plumping for high end pro gear like the ART or the Behringer. I find wearing a couple of sweaters and wrapping myself in a blanket helps as the warmer I feel the warmer my end product.

I would say The Alesis Thinksynth should be used as stand alone unit. However I have on occasion had cause to insert an Alesis 3630 compressor just to curb one or two of the Peaks. Again though it does take practice to use a peice of kit of this quality, so beware

Thank god, we're all still human and have a sense of humor.

Happy holidays everyone!

I get to spend New Years' in Miami. :D

No need Chess, just swallow that mic, rapper-style, have a Borg XLR installed in your dick, and .....-Richie

LOL!!! The problem is when you try to go take a leak. It really intruduces a lot of static into the line. I think the amonia doesn't play well with the XLR connectors. But it's a good way to go, if you want to go the way of the Borg. :D

I stick my dick in the mixer and the mic up my ass, preferably an sm58, 57s have a tendency to get lost between the peaks, and I sing and record till my hearts content. :)
I hope this helps

I just knew the SM57's and 58's were different...Blue says that they're exactly the same...now we know. :D
