I have been involved with multimedia production and integration with computers since the 70s dabbling with both midi and simple sound recording. My wife (classical musician, classical and Broadway producer) and I are building a home studio for both acoustic and electric music.
I have been slowly acquiring and learning to use a variety of old gear for both stage and studio use. The goal is to build a studio with a 24 IN DAW as well as my recently acquired and not yet working Tascam M16 (with DBX & AO 65 auto locater but no meter bridge) and a TEAC 80-8 with DBX and meter bridge but no locator. Eventually I would like to be able control a mixdown from the M16 to the 80-8 under the control of the DAW - building an analog tape from analog tracks but controlling from the computer. I have both a MOU Midi Express hanging off my big PC as well as a Midi Timepeace 2 to go with a mac I am currently repairing. I have bought an old Mackie 24-4 deck to go with my Samson 24-4 which I use for instrument mix. I also have a collection of high end but obsolete video recorders I got cheap at auction including two Sony Beta decks, a Sony Umatic deck, and two pro Sony SVGA decks all of which I hope to able to do transfer with commercially.
I am currently bidding on eBay for two synchronizers - a Fostex Synchronizer Mdl 4030 w/4035 Controller and a Tascam MTS 30.
I hope to find a community to support my learning to be a first rate audio engineer. I am currently working with a Fostex 4/8 track in the field, an Alesis MultiMix8 and Cubase on one PC and a Emu 1616 and Cubase on another. I plan to upgrade to Nuendo the first chance I have.
I particularly would like to find a place where I could download both the shop manual and owners manuals for both the Tascam and the TEAC. I also realize I am getting into a big hairy dark cave with the sychonization issues so I welcome all support there as well.
Thanks!
