Hey, I am Antonstudio. It's great to be here, and thanks for allowing me to join this chat.
After 25 years, I am about to restart my little home studio. I've been completely out of studio recording for a long time, and so I have plenty catching up to do.
I will eventually have to get on board the computer recording thing, but for now, I would prefer to begin with a Tascam DP24 multitrack recorder I purchased, used.
I am more of a musician and singer (bass, guitar, keyboard and drums arrangement, lead, and harmony vocals), at this stage, than a guy who wants to be an up to the minute engineer type. I just want to get a bunch of songs I've written over the years, done as best I possibly can.
So, I am here, mainly to ask questions related to the above. I hope that this goes well, and I also wish you ALL a great day.
Antonstudio.

I think you will find that the recording process really helps in the composing process. Welcome aboard.

Welcome. I hope you have fun on your recording journey. Just stay away from the degenerates in Prime Time.

Welcome aboard Anton.

The DP24SD should be well suited to recording. The operation is basically the same as the old cassette based systems without the rewinding time or issues with tape. I started out on an Yamaha AW16G and still have a Zoom R24. Just like the old tape decks, they have FF, Play, RW, Record and Stop buttons. What could be more simple?

They aren't my primary means of recording, but I find my R24 to be great for a portable recording rig. In the end everything is moved onto my computer. Working in the computer DAW eventually becomes as familiar as using a word processor instead of a typewriter, or a spreadsheet instead of a ledger book or Quicken instead of a checkbook. You just need to learn the system.

Welcome aboard Antonstudio!

I parrot TalismanRich's sentiments.
It is much more important at first to have a simple capture device for tracks in order to focus on the really important aspect of proper tracking technique.

Things like understanding proper microphone placement, how to get the most out of your recording room, getting the best out of your equipment and instruments goes a HUGELY long way to getting a good recording.

It is amazing to me how many people who are just getting into recording are asking what all plug-ins they need to get started rather than being concerned about learning technique...makes me shake my head... LOL

Welcome to the forum.

I say this whenever it makes sense to.... I absolutely LOVE my Tascam DP-32SD. I have two (one is a backup still in the box that I got stupid cheap). I also have a like-new DP-24 that I also got stupid cheap. They are fantastic stand-alone recorders that are intuitive and powerful.

Have fun!

Also - a couple of strong recommendations:

1) Be sure to update to the latest firmware for the DP-24

2) Make sure you use (only) SD cards that are on the Tascam approved list

These two recommendations will help sidestep significant headaches later. :thumbs up:
