So I have been looking into the home recording deal for a while and I have decided to start during the summer. I feel as though I have a general understanding of recording. I just want some opinions on the PreSonus AudioBox USB, and Audio Technica 4040. I'm going to be recording into logic on a 2011 MacBook pro. I will be recording my vocals and my acoustic guitar for the next couple of years. Also my budget for the microphone is $200, and my budget for the audio interface is $200. I am open to suggetions.

I have an audio technica 4040. They are excellent mics. It works superbly for vocals and is completely versatile. Picks up acoustic instruments very well too. I did a side by side comparison with my 4040 and an mxl 9090. The 4040 had so much more clarity and for it's price, its definitely one of the top mics in its price range.

I cant say too much about the audiobox but I do own a presonus firepod 10 and it sounds outstanding. You might have to go to guitar center and try some of their equipment out and see how it sounds.

Thanks for your input Brenton. I will definitely head down to Guitar Center to check out some gear.

No problem. What I usually do is go to guitar center and play with their musical items all day. Then I get them on ebay when I get home :-)

Always seems to save $$$$

You can get a decent setup for $400

If I was recording Acoustic and vocals I would spend $200 and pick up 2 used SM57 and a SM58 Then spend the rest on aninterface. But you should be able to get three mics for $150 which would give you $250 to spend on an interface, in which case I would get an Alesis Multimix 8 USB 2.0 so I could separate all the mics and mix then separately in one take. It comes with Cubase LE4.

Someone asked this same question in the mic forum a couple days ago so heres what I wrote there FWIW
