Interface upgrade

Hello all,
I'm thinking about upgrading my studio. I'm using a Tascam US-1641 into my 15" macbook pro, about to upgrade to Logic, and I want more than 8 mic inputs. What would be my next "interface" option. As in, what do actual studios use? ANY comments or input or advice or tips etc are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

You can always just get 8 channels of preamps and have 16 with your 1641. You are going to need them anyway with another interface. The limit with the 1641 is you can not add more than the 16 in's. Most never need more than 16 anyway. I don't believe that high end interfaces/converters have any preamps. I could be wrong though....

You want over 8 mic inputs with preamps? I think presonus makes a 8 channel mixer with 8 pres you might be able to chain them and get 16 - they cost like $400 if you dont need all to have pres there are 16 channel interfaces

Not 15" Macbooks.

But really, define your needs a little more clearly. Why do you need more than 8 mic inputs? Maybe just adding a cheap analog mixer will give you the flexibility you need. Why do you feel you need to upgrade your interface instead of just expanding it?
