I seem to have a little problem with over researching and then doubting my choice.

I plan on getting cubase, and a pair of shure sm57's. I plan to record vocals, guitar, piano mostly through midi maybe a standup, and possibly a small drum setup.cBut the problem lies in the interface because of mixed reviews I doubt which one would be perfect for me. So far I have come up with the focusrite saffire pro40, and the steinberg ur28m.

Im looking to spend around $500 any insight or other recommendations would be wonderful.

The PreSonus Audiobox 1818VSL is highly recommended. I love it. It has 8 mic inputs, instrument inputs, and had MIDI I/O. Even if you only need 2 mic inputs for now, this will serve you for a while if you even need more mics.

The focusrite saffire pro40 looks the best bet if you need the mic input count at the moment. If super low latency is a priority and 2 mics will serve for now the NI Komplete Audio 6 is the best in its price class. You get Cubase le5 (6?) bundled and of course a bit off an upgrade to the biggy. There are two more line inputs so pre amp/mixer? Also S/PDIF so a pre amp such as the Audient Mico could be used. You could also use the cash saved to expand your mic inventory.

You mention MIDI? That would rule out the Steinberg for me, no MIDI ports and Steinies effectively INVENTED MIDI sequencers!

Personally I would save some more and buy an RME UCX!

Dave.

Dave.

What is that opinion all about? Just curious. I could really care less, unless it screws with me. Which it likely does not....

I am just a troll here....
