Alan, stop circling this fine BBS like a bloody vulture--only swooping down to promote your own gear.

Ummm, that would be Stephen Pauls Gear!! :D

Alan,

Very cool for you! I find it funny that you have taken so much abuse from various peanut galleries (and I dont mean just here) and yet a real deal pro like Mr. Paul recognizes you as partner material. Its a beautiful F-U to say the least....enjoy it....you should be proud!

Now,

I know its early and all that but is there any little drop of speculation that you can drop on us about this line of mics? What is the intended price point? 300? 1500? 2000? My right leg?

Rough estimates would be nice. Though I am sure you cant commit to anything, maybe a little hint as to whom you are pitching to in the market.

Without getting in your beez wax, what does this mean for you? What is your role, more or less? Do you help with design, marketing, tooling, etc?

Again, I'm not on you.....I'm just genuinely curious....not to mention very interested. How does this venture fit in with your own line of mics without being a conflict of interest?

Hang around more often, man!

We will look to take pre-orders next month to know just how many we should build on the first run. I will let all know just how we will do this later, so if you are intent on getting the first one, keep checking in. I wonder who will really get the first one.
Alan,

Congratulations. This is incredible. You've already built an incredible mic(s) for the price point, and now this.

Do you have a ballpark figure for what these mics will cost? I would be very interested in pre-ordering one of these babies.

Stephen Paul,

Congratulations. And, thanks for holding out. We don't want a mic that someone has bought the right to put your name on. We want one of your mics. You held out instead of selling out, and we will be the winners.

Taylor

Alan,

Are you involved in the production or are you handling the distribution? It would seem like mass producing mics to S. Paul's specs would almost be an exercise in futility. Any word on how or where they are being manufactured?

Allen and Steven, congrates my friends. Can you let us know when you'll be taking orders? I'd be REAL interested to know (as I'm pulling the ol' Visa out and setting it near the computer).:D

Same here......!!!

Sounds like a great opportunity - for both of you, AND the audio community!

Alan and Stephen, congrats on your partnership and I wish you the best of luck.I think you're going to get killer results and I hope you kick some serious ass.I'm not sure what price point that you'll be aiming for but (unfortunately for me) I have pretty big credit limits on my cards, now all I have to do is find a way to pay the bills!!I can't wait to hear the finished product.Hey if you need an average Joe to put the new mic through it's paces,I'm your boy!I'll even check out a stereo pair for ya if you wanna send them to me1Ain't I all heart?

This calls for some expert beta testing, Im here to volunteer my services at no charge to you, and if you act now you will recieve a set of ginsue steak knives.:D

Alan, congratulations on your new partnership w/Stephen Paul.

As you can see here, we are all excited to get our hands on these works or art.

If you can give us an ideas of the price range that would be great!

Please make me #16 and #17.

Best of luck!

Ok guys, I will answer some of your questions. Stephen will lurking around here. If he feels welcome enough and knows he won't get stepped on, maybe he will chime in, but you will have to make him feel welcome. He is a bit skiddish about returning to HR, as I am.

The first unit is a 3um capsule done to Stephen Paul's specs and the electronics are designed from the ground up. The mic will have a cardioid and omni switchable pattern. I will save the other features and description for now, but it is a work of art that should hang in the Met in New York.

I have nothing to do with the design of this mic. Let me make that very clear, but I have learned a boat load from the master and I will use that knowledge with Stephen's permission, but Stephen has already told me that he will help me with my projects anytime as a favor to me.

SP or SP, kind of freaky how that happend...Studio Projects, and Stephen Paul. In either case, I am building Stephen's mic with his supervision, and I am distributing the mics under the PMI Audio Banner.

So, how do we do it...How do we get the price low enough. All of you should know that answer, but I can tell you that it has to pass Stephen's hands, eyes, and ears. I will also tell you that this is not a problem. Look at the Viper from Groove Tubes. That thing is a work of art and no one here can say otherwise. So will it be with Stephen Paul microphones.

My factories are ready and primed to build this mic to those tolerances set forth by Stephen. The mic should retail for $6K, especially the way it is built, but the target retail is $1,499.99 to $1,699.99. All of this depends on several factors as some new machinery must be purchased and prices of materials vary.

Either way, at that price you can expect a street price of about $1,199.99 to $1,499.99. There will be several models down the pike but as I said before, if I was a high end mic manufacturer, I would look to get rid of us, or start quaking in my boots.

I hope we deliver on time, but this is still 5 months off for shipping. We will find a way to get real pre orders posted and we will let you know what the involves.

Any other questions, let me know, and be sure to visit Stephen's and my forum on RO.

Stephen and yourself are more than welcome here!!
Please feel free to assist us in future mic purchases!

Hey Alan
Any chance you and Stepen can design a "classic" sounding bass drum mic with a low price point. Perhaps a Stephen Paul B1 for kick? And while I'm dreaming can I have that for $99 too?

Good luck!!!

znert,

Uhhhh....No! Not much chance of that for a $99.00 Stephen Paul mic, but your heading up the right direction on the B1, just stick a screen in front of it, and kick away!!!!

Anyone else notice that in their spare time together these guys, including
Harvey, would make a killer BAND with all the writing/musical talent there?
Like you have time for that now.. (maybe on a demo CD for these microphones?)

Anyway, congratulations on a terrific venture!

Chris

P.S. Glad to see our bbs "family reunion" is going well,
and to get two valuable members like Alan and Stephen back.

I wouldn't want to be heavily invested in stocks from any of the "other" microphone companies right now. I predict the most lucrative profession to be in over the next few months will be "reverse-engineer" - a lot of Austrian/German companies are going to be bidding for your services quite soon! I hope you've got some high-powered anti-industrial espionage security, Alan & Stephen!

There have been a number of technological breakthroughs over the last 25 years that have changed the face of music and music recording, e.g. the DX7, ADATs, ProTools, etc. This may be as significant as any of them...

Best of luck. I can hardly wait for a chance for paws-on experience!

By the way, the mixonline link must be just about the world's busiest right now. I've yet to be able to get it to load.

littledog you totally read my mind, time to buy "short" on the
high end microphone stocks!

Chris

Many sites have switched to some of the new Java scripting. If you're using Netscape 4.78 on a PC you've doubtless noticed that many sites won't load reliably.

There is an attempt to right now unify browser code and so IE or Netscape 6.x (which is still a mess) is needed to reliably load those sites.

If you like me, prefer Netscape 4.78, the best thing is to set Preferences to load the Last Page Loaded as the startup option, then close Netscape and reopen it on the difficult page. It will open.

When things get unreliable again, hit reload, close the browser and do the same and it will load. Or use (yuki) IE 6...

I finally found the Mix link and it loaded okay... Personally, I think I must be completely crazy to have done this in the first place. But if it wasn't for Alan and also Wendy's feelings about it, I'd have never done it.

Glad you guys feel it will be a good one. It's just the beginning... I can't be around much right now as I'm in working from early morning to early morning... but Alan lets me know what's happening.

As far as interns... thanks all who have volunteered. Don't give up hope just yet, but there is a young lady from Texas with BSEE who is coming in this weekend, and I think she's got the spot.

TTYS,

PS If you want the spaudio site, just click on the artist shot on the mp3 page. Don't have time to change the sig file right now. You can also write me via Wendy's page.
