This thread is very interesting to son and I. Son is a huge fan of Anna V and has played some of those pieces. There seems to be little to no agreement as to how to mic up classical guitar?
Now, for the first Bach piece I can only see one microphone? It sits as I would expect, pointed at the centre of the guitar and just under a mtr away? Cardioid I think. The sound is excellent to my ears (via MOTU M4 and KH-150) The guitar is very stable in the centre of the soundstage and there is just enough hall effect. Out of shot ambience mics?
The second recital's miccing is weirder! Again a mic pointed at guitar but then the LDC on the floor? This then begs the question of how those sources are treated? Panned as stereo? (does not sound like it) Summed to mono and if so why? The single mic recording was easily good enough. Maybe it was done to get signals to the two bins and columns on the sides?
Lastly, be much obliged if any boffs here could give an informed guess as to make and model of mics and the PA speakers? Son is looking to spend quite big on both at some point.
Dave.
