I recently bought the 2.2ghz Macbook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo). Could someone give me a straight, easy to understand explanation of what kind of effects and instrument plugins I will be able to use with Ableton Live 6? I'm getting really confused. Part of the problem is that I'm pretty new to Mac. I've been working with Live 6 on my PC running XP for a while, using freeware VST(i)s and Waves plugins. I understand the basics behind Universal Binary, Core Audio and the Audio Units platforms, so I guess my question is mainly about VST and what kinds of VST I can use on the Intel Mac with Live 6.

THanks

Does your owners manual not answer any of these question?

The Mac manual? Not really and not very in depth. I've searched on the internet a good deal but I feel like I'm only getting pieces of the puzzle here and there. I'm waiting on Live 6 for my Mac to arrive so I haven't looked at it's manual yet.

The Live 6 manual is the one you will need. It looks to me like your concerned with free VST's. Look on http://www.kvraudio.com/. It will answer the free-ware questions. As to the other plugins- there own companies websites will tell you if they will run or not. Most of the better plugin and VI companies are getting there products fully compatible in a hurry. Hope that helps.

Any plugins will have to be universal binary to work with an intel mac. That's the main thing you need to watch out for.

RTAS plug-ins? I think that's what you need to look for. Well, at least that's what I need for Pro Tools.

And only Pro Tools. He's already going with Live 6. Don't confuse the issue
with totally non related proprietary plugins.
