Cool song

B.Sabbath,
The main riff reminds me of Soundgarden for some odd reason. Not like in a rip-off kind of way, it just has that slow moving type thing they used to do. I like the track, mix sounds good. I was curious as to how you like the Presonus blue max compressor? I noticed they don't have a knob for threshold, i thought that was kind of odd. Are the presets usefull or not really? I really want to check one out but the music store in my area is still selling krap that they purchased in 1980, they cant seem to move forward and pick up some new gear. Really liked the song though.

Pretty dark song

Thank god its not dark out.

Im having a problem writing in minor keys, lately, too :D

Sounds Groovey!

...the mix sounds fine, man. I'm telling you, you need to hook up with some film projects; this is great soundtrack stuff! Nice sounds, Sam.
:D

Although this is not exactly my cup of tea of musical preference, but I thought the vox should have been moved more forward in the mix. But other than that good job.

What Vox?Are you listening to the right tune.;)

Well Hell,

I've listened a couple more times and can only think of totally personal preferences. Those won't due in this case:). The progression still tightens my abdomen and makes me wanna belt out. Everything on top of the progression adds to the power and steadfast darkness of the tune.

That alarm clock is plain old indecent. To jarr me with such rudimentary means.......:)

Nice direction with the instrumental path Sam. I'm sorry I missed the boat on this one.

I'd wish you peace but, I don't wanna ruin your muse:p

Theron.

hey Sam,
nice way to guilt everyone into giving you feedback ;) :D

I liked the way WATYF put his foot in his mouth about drums beeing programed.. :D but I have to agree with him. I felt the snare wasn't always where it should be. (what is it with me and snares lately? :) )

One thing I noticed that I like is how you have this minor progression going and then end on major cord (exp 1:05)

very dark man, don't you have something positive going on?....:D

cheers

I like this song, - listened a couple of times earlier today.

I was expecting the guitar work to develop into a more dynamic solo, - but you just hang in there, not giving in to that easy path, ...instead you allow the song to develop the dynamic...not just one instrument....nice.

Hey Sam,
.........I had some problems with the VBR on my last thread too. I dunno....... Its easy to get spoiled. I hate to go back to 128 after hearing the quality of VBR. I know you feel the same. Maybe that LAME encoder that Waldo mentioned is the answer...... again I dunno. ..............on to the madness!
Cool stuff man!!!! As everyone and their mother has already mentioned, the guits Kick a major ass! .......big fat thick fuckers. The samples are very cool and well used. I like the drum sounds......all of them. .........Fit the tune really well, I think. ................but where's the "VOCS" man? ......:D Theres plenty of room in this one for a few words of dispair and torment. I know youve got something floating 'round in your head...... Im looking forward to hearing it. Mixwise.... everything sounds great. Cool Shite my man.......... very cool.

Sam plays his drums...they're not programed :D

I assumed they were samples (by that I mean, sampled kicks, snares, high hats, etc. laid out in a prog like Acid or something)... but that explains the timing discrepancies... so what do you mean he plays them? they're obviously electric... does he have a V-drum set or something?

but heck.. if I had paid attention to each and every post sam has ever made, (like everyone here should  :p) I woulda known all the details of how he records, and I wouldn't have made that little faux pas. That's just one more reason why I need to read, listen to, and comment on everything that sam puts up... :D :p

:p

WATYF

Yeah...he uses some kinda V-drums. Not being a drummer, I don't really know what kind but it's trigger stuff of some kind.

O.K.. well that makes sense.. I was tryin' to match it up to a metronome to see if I was crazy, or if that lick at 2:29 really was out of time, but I couldn't get a consistant tempo... I guess it wasn't just my mind playin' tricks on me.. :p That sounds cool though.. I wish I had a V-drum set, just cause of how easy it would be to record here in my apartment..

anybody got 2 grand laying around that they wanna give to me...???

:p

WATYF

I downloaded the VBR version, sounds killer!
Your guitar sound is really great.

I like the samples at the beggining and ending, right in place as usual.

How about some vocals?

Like having to get up for work and do this friggin job so's you can
buy some new gear! :D

Love that E-bow too!

Great stuff.

Best to you,
Pete

BTW-I found some good links for the Lame converter and a front end ripper to go with it if you want it.

WATYF - I only have the V-Drum sound module, not V-pads.. Your mind 'is' playing tricks on you.. There are no drum discrepencies.. I am positive the drums are good.. I understand that you might not be able to play that drum beat, or even comprehend it, but the one thing for sure is, there are no timing problems. Someone else would have mentioned it or I would have noticed it..It's o.k. though because it's a hard drum beat to play and I saw a few people try it, and they hacked it.. Keep practicing and listening to different types of music, and this drum beat will make sense someday.. Try not to play always what's expected... I will take it is a very big compliment that you tried your best not to like it, but alas, I can tell you knew the drums were sweeeeet.... and you felt the heat and had to come up with something... you should have looked for something wrong with the guitar, because I know these drums are cool... keep at it kid! :) thanks for listening!

jjtcorsair - thanks man! I love Rush! :)

Wireneck - hey man, I can't say enough about the BLue Max compressor. It has some presets that are pricelss to me because I have problems using compression properly, and this takes the work out of it.. I use it on every bit of guitar and bass and vocals that I record.. Every time.. I don't use it on drums because I don't compress drums.. the Blue Max is one of the greatest recording tools I ever purchased.. No I'm not on the payroll, but it really is a secret weapon imhop.. People always ask about my sound, and I always mention it, but I don't think people understand how heavily I use it.. I only use the presets too!! Yeah I love Soundgarden.. thanks for checkin' it out man.. Anything else you want to know about any of my tunes, feel free to drop me a P.M. anytime..

JMarcomb - thanks man! I'm not sure what you mean by "too"

caretaker - appreciate that man! :D

I'll be back shortly...

George Parler - thanks.. I think you might have listened to a different song because this ones an instrumental, but thanks for checking out something anyway man.. I'll be checking out your song in a few minutes..

Kramer - your full of useful info aren't you! :D thanks.. I actually purchased music match as well,I get notified about updates and after I updated this past time, the option for 160 was removed.. I think I'll try LAME for encoding and I guess I'll use music match for listening.. who knows! :)

theron - thanks man! :D Don't worry about missing the boat when it's named the Titanic! :D (yeah that sounded dumb) :D

Fed - just because the snare is not where you expect doesn't mean it's wrong eh?? I'm sure the drums are good on this one, and I know they are strange.. It's a weird beat to hang with.. Yeah the more I hear from WATYF, the more I laugh at him. :D thanks Fed! I really didn't think this one was that dark! :D

mcmd - thanks man!

Guernica - that new avatar scares me! :D I can never get away with an instrumental.. I guess I should have made it more interesting.. I think I might add vocals.. thanks for the word man!

muzeman - thanks! I'm glad you checked out the VBR version. :) Yeah if you could send me that LAME link I would appreciate it.. I think I might have to add some vocals.. In the future I'll ty to make instrumentals more interesting.. :D thanks muze!

Hey guys, I have enough feedback.. Thanks a lot.. Unless you want to ask about something, this thread can go.. WATYF, if you need some drum help, maybe we can start a thread somewhere else so others can get a chance to have there music heard..

I'm not going to respond on this thread anymore, but It doesn't mean I don't appreciate the comments! I do..

ALL you guys rule! :D

sam

See now..........I don't think I agree with the "I'm not gonna respond to this thread anymore" concept. The fact is that for the same reasons some people don't listen to every tune (slow modems or time constraints) there are people who miss a thread for a while and only notice it after a while. To these people it's a "new" thread....not one that's been dragging out. I think they're just as deserving of response and thank you as people who caught it the first day. Lots of folks don't read all the posts...they just read the opening and listen to the tune. So they miss the post about having enough feedback and all they know is that the tunes writer never noticed them. That's no different whether the threads brand new or has been around for a while. Every once in a while an old tune of mine pops up and I'm delighted to see someone that I'd hoped would catch it the first time finally hear it. I will always respond no matter how long it's been up because to the guy who just found it.....it's brand new.

point well taken Lt.! I just figured I would let a thread die after it's served it's purpose so others are not overlooked.. I also don't want to have to teach WATYF about different drum styles here... I have a feeling he'll be posting some more silly responses, and I didn't want to keep this thread at the top while someone with 3 replies falls off the front page.. When I said I wouldn't respond on this thread anymore, I also said "it doesn't mean I don't appreciate the comments though.. I do." How about if I just thank people through p.m.? :D Would that be cool? I hear what your saying my man.. I hope you know what my intentions are.. Then again, the road to hell is paved with them! You bring up a good point Lt., and you know I respect your opinion so I will leave no comment unthanked! :D Is that cool?
