Hey all -

I just got a new computer, and all of a sudden, I'm having problems getting FL Studio and Sonar to recognize my VSTi synths.
They won't open properly.
Now, I can't even get the dropdown in "add VSTi" in Sonar to recognize...
Shouldn't Sonar at least be able to play Wasp or Slayer from FL?
Do I need a wrapper?

Mountain,

I'm only new to the VSTi's as well. I'm using Sonar 3 Producer and I'm using the wrapper which it came with, have you upgraded to Sonar 3 Producer yet? If you have two VST wrappers installed there might be a conflict.

Just a couple of thoughts,

Porter

Yes -
I just bought Sonar 3.0. This is my first attempt at using VSti's with it.
Although I never had a problem installing, then using virtual synths with FL Studio - and on my new PC, it doesn't wanna open any...

Have you run the VST Wrapper and let is search for VSTi's?

Update to 3.1.1 and re-scan for failed and existing plugins using the Cakewalk VST adapter.

Q.

I have the update. Now I've got the VSTis installed!
I just didn't run the wrapper...
Is there a way to play virtual synths with the keyboard like in FL Studio, or do I need to plug in the Oxygen? I'm not hearing any sounds in Sonar...

Plug in the Oxygen. Or you can use the Piano Roll, but there's not "virtual keyboard" in Sonar.

What settings do I need to tweek to get playing VSTi's with Sonar?
I've got them fine in FL Studio.
But something is wrong with the way I route them in Sonar!
Can't hear a thing...
I'll figure this sucker out if it takes all day!

Is the Audio Engine on?

Have you selected the VSTis MIDI-track?

Thanks for the help, MosKus...

Yeah - it plays WAVs.

I'm not sure I assigned a MIDI track to it. I right click on the track and go to insert--->VSTi
It pulls up the instrument's interface, but even though I can press keys with the mouse, no sound happens.

I haven't run VSTi's yet, but I'm going to assume they are essentially the same as DXi's.

To run a DXi it involves two tracks - one midi and one audio. The virtual instrument is placed on the Audio track, but the notes it plays will be fed to it from the midi track.

When you open the PRV, you should lauch it from the highlighted MIDI track (or you can select it in PRV using the Pick Tracks icon).

The output setting of the MIDI track should be set to the appropriate DXi or VSTi.

This all made pretty easy (for DXi's) if you use the Synth Rack tool from the toolbar. That will automatically establish both tracks for you and set the outputs properly. I don't know if the Synth Rack handles VSTi's. Someone will have to tell you that.

Good luck.

Got it!! Thanks guys.
