This is a follow up question to my recent post in the Fostex section regarding installing rack ears on a stand alone cd recorder.

I'm curious if anyone has ever modified a tape deck, or cd player, and installed a pair of rack ears on a deck that didn't necessarily have the option for rack ear mounts?

Here's the story*** I have an early model cd recorder, that didn't have the option for rack ears. But, a later version of the recorder does have this option. Now, the newer unit looks exactly the same, and same specs, and size, except for a few additional features . . .The holes for rack ear brackets match up perfectly on the older model (bottom) hardware screws-- except, the older model doesn't have the two upper holes to accommodate the top holes of the rack ear brackets (confused yet)

So, my question is, can I just bolt in the bottom screws for the rack ears, . and drill two additional holes to support the top part of the rack ears? ***Sorry for the confusion. I guess I'm just wondering if the 4 bottom bolts on the bottom of the recorder is enough to support the unit in a rack with these new ears.

Me too, and my smaller non-rack units. Most of the holes on the shelf line up with the gear so they stay put and even with the rest of the stuff. They make a good place to keep notebooks, remotes and misc. crap too.
