Inserting a preamp into the signal chain?

Recently I have been looking at purchasing a new preamp (possibly an ART pro channel), and I just have one quick question. I am using a presonus firepod as my interface, and I was just wondering how I would go about connecting a preamp to it.

I believe once you enter an out board preamp you would have to come in to the interface via line input.

yes, line in (TRS). You may have the option of going unbalanced (TS) like a regular guitar cable, but thats not a good idea. There is also an XLR out on the preamp, but if you used that you would be running through the preamp on your firepod also, two preamps!

Now, your ART Pro Channel Tube Mic Preamp that you listed would be the exception, it doesnt have a balanced 1/4" out (TRS), thats not a good thing. Somebody else may disagree, but instead of using the unbalanced out, you could just get a cable with xlr on one side TRS on the other to go into your firepod, thats what makes sense to me unless somebody else knows different
