In "pro" studios, I notice they just use faders to get all the levels for the songs and such. Now since I'm only 16 and jobless I don't have much money so all my mixing is done on Cool Edit. I assume for working with computers you run each channel from a direct out and are there direct ins...like inputs back into the mixer from the soundcard so you can fiddle with each track on the actual board? Kinda hard for me to explain, anybody get it?

Well- that's the most obvious visual thing they are doing to achieve this, but don't forget the mic positioning, performer volume, the trim setting on the pre-amp and any inline effects.

But I know you didn't wanna know that!

To answer your question- yes you can go either way from a soundcard to a mixer or from a mixer to a soundcard.

These are just ordinary inputs on the mixer. One channel per mono track from the computer.
