Info on finding a Mastering enginer

So Im about to help record a friends band. The just won a local (dayton ohio) band playoff and they now have 10 hours in a profesional studio and they also have a decent recording rig, which consist of a G4 a motu 828? and Digital performer. They will be recording the drums first in the pro studio and then the rest of the music home and recording their (unless they can save enough time to do vocals in the pro studio). So my question is, how would I go about starting to research some one/company to do the mastering. THis is the first time I have looked for a mastering engineer and I wont to do it right. If it helps the band kind of sounds like a muse, post rockish. Any info would be great.

There are some good guys on this board that you might look into....poke around and you should find them. I know of a few names, but there could be several more that I don't know of....Farview, Massive Master, Masteringhouse, and like I said, many other knowledgable people who may be able to help you. Try the search function for them, but you might be overwhelmed with results.

Make sure to consider finding a good mix engineer. A excellent mastering job is nothing without a mix of the same calibur.

WHile I would definitly look on this board I was kind of wondering in general, how would you go about finding the best mastering house for the best price (im not talkin the cheapest but they arent signed yet so money is a big factor). So maybe some of the mastering engineers could help me out. What does a person looking for your services need to do to make thiers and your life easier? What kind of questions or things should they be asking about or looking for. I have done a lot of research on the net and other books so I have an idea of what mastering engineers do, enough so to know that I cant do it and that its not something to be taken lightly so any info more would be great.

Look on the liner notes of indie records that you love the sound of, but also see if you can chat with enginners at some local studios/ or anywhere and ask for recomendations. You can get some good recomendations from this board.
