hey, im woking on a somewhat jazzy track with some electronics and whatnot. i sampled my kick drum off of a kiss record because i liked the sound but it doesnt quite thump hard enough. whats the best way to go about compressing this drum, should i compress on an aux buss, compress the drum by itself? i know this probably sounds like some dumb shit to you guys, but i usually work with electronic kits.

thanks in advance

Compression is usually done on an insert so it replaces the entire track. You can use an Aux and mix it in for some interesting effects but it just depends on the sound you want.

If you are sampling then why not just get a sample with the right sound? Are you using real monitors so you know what the low end sounds like? If you are mixing on headphones or a PA then one man's thump can be another man's blown woofer.
