When I record in my room, you can really hear the cheap reverb of the room itself. You'd swear that you can picture the room as you hear the guitar and vocals.

I don't have a lot of money to spend, but I don't want to hear the room in my recordings - just the music. Any suggestions of how I could treat my room with basic materials that I could buy at my local hardware or fabric stores?

I tried that, and I had to tear all the crap down.

Suck it up and buy at LEAST some bass traps...or check out John Sayers' plans for building up room treatment, and build some stuff yourself.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T PUT EGG CRATES OR MATTRESS PADS UP. THEY DO NOTHING.

Close miking at lower instrument volumes will help a lot too, but like turnip said, have a look at John's site for some great ideas on acoustic treatment.

Okay then, I'll take a look at John Sayer's site. Thanks for the advice.

P.S.

Where is John Sayer's site? I'll take a look around this forum and I'll do a search on Google. I'm sure I'll find him.
