Just a thought, weve got some decent mikes etc together to record some tracks to CD and have a few decent bits and bobs, but then I got thinking...If everyone buys what everyone else recommends (57, D112 etc etc), wont everyone end up sounding the same in the end? obviously the playing, tuning, room and all will make a difference, but its one less opportunity for individuality, no?

anyway let me know what you think...(I'm talking about drums mainly, btw)

Possibly... but then again - different room, different mic pres, different consoles, and most of all -- different drummer...

I don't think you lose individuality to any degree that you need to be concerned with, just 'cos some of the tools are the same. People have been mic'ing guitar amps for years using an SM57 and did you hear too many of the same guitar sounds? (well, not until ProTools came along, anyways!) ;)

The same guitar/amp in the hands of 2 different guitarists can sound like two completely different instruments.... same with drums/drummers....

I whole-heartedly agree with Bruce....except for maybe the Pro Tools part....but thats a different thread......
