I've been recording drums lately by running all my mics into a mixer, then using the out channel with a quarter inch jack to 3.5mm jack adapter into my computer. Now, it only allows me to record one track as a whole. I was wondering what I would need to be able to record each drum individually on individual tracks. :)

Any help would be appreciate!

Your in need of an audio interface. For myself, I use a Presonus Firestudio Project which allows me to plug in up to 8 mics, the interface is then sent to my computer via firewire. With this device I'm able to record 8 seperate tracks at once.

yep I second that, you'll see a huge improvement in sound quality too if you are currently just using your PC sound card to record. I have a delta 1010 which is one of the cheapest 8-channel interfaces, it needs preamps on each channel but if your mixer has insert points you can use the ones on your mixer

I unfortunately don't have a Firewire port. Is it possible to do USB or anything else?

You can get a firewire card.

There are also multi-track USB interfaces available.

Well thanks guys, I appreciate it.

Could anyone tell me one of the cheapest 8-10 channel interfaces available?

You can also buy used from ebay, cragslist, or here at hr.com.

I personally used Presonus Firepods (actually I have one for sale if your interested) and they work great. I just recently got a Presonus Firestudio. But there are MANY options for you. But you would need a Firewire card. There are also a lot of USB options, too but make sure that you have USB 2.0 on your computer.

Just as a side note...you should be able to record two tracks with your mixer. Use the Left as one channel and the Right as another. Pan everything you want on channel one to the left. And pan everything to the right that you want on channel 2. Check out this link for techniques on recording drums with 2 & 3 tracks.

You will need to spend a few hundered dollars to get a multichannel USB Interface
I recommend Alesis Multimix 16 USB - $300 used on ebay......
