What I like about the Mindprint Envoice is its sound and its versatility - sweepable EQ, for example - it's a really useful tool. Its compressor section is a bit limited in terms of control (no attack or release settings, basically) but sounds fine.

My question is: does anyone know of a comparable channel strip in terms of sound and control?

Sory, worng forim.

Never mind - if you have mics, you have preamps. If you have preamps, maybe you can answer my question...

You Might Look...

... At the Trident-MTA gear... Like the Signature One or Signature Two...

Actually, since Malcolm Toft left FletcherAcoustics, the Trident-MTA line is ceasing its production.

In either case the Signature One and Signature Two are great units. We are closing them out for good prices, so before they go, if anyone is interested, let me know as we are selling them direct.

If you need information on them, go to www.joemeek.com and on the left side, click Trident-MTA Line

Dang!

I haden't any idea! I'd think that'd make things even more valuable down the road! But I'm still trying to get this Series 924 off my hands as you know!

That Signature One looks wonderful, but I want compression as well.

I'm looking at all the recommendations made so far. I started with the Presonus VXP because it's so versatile for the price.

Dream machine: clean pre, multiband sweepable peak EQ with variable Q, compression with all controls. Oh, and a tube - did I mention a tube? Two tubes are better. :D

This song was recorded using an ART ProChannel and a RODE NTK Tube Mic . Both of these units have been absolutley great and I am here to recommend them to anyone. I went through the sameintense search a you.. Looking for a cool channel strip I listened to the Joe Meek, Loved it on Bass but didn't get it for me on Vox. Checked out the DBX 576 and 586, found those to be musshy and 'dirty' on the top end. Never did check out the Mindprint but I have heard great things about it. I actually, against most opinions went with the Pro Channel, It got RAVE reviews and I could'nt agree more. It has been a great unstoppable and versatile piece of gear.

Good Luck.

Linked to your mp3, sounds good to me, good argument for pro channel

on third listen now

the new focusrite penta.

It sounds awesome. I don't know its price in $ but its only 299 pounds sterling.

2U. Preamp and compressor. THe preamp is the same as found in the voicemaster.

Symetrix 528. $299 used on ebay. Very versatile.

Here's some real feedback about a suggestion made in this thread - the Meek VC1Q.

I have and use the VC6Q on my voice tracks. This weekend, I got my hands on a VC1Q, and have been putting it to use. I like it better than the VC6Q - there's more detail, more transparency. On a scale of 1 - 10, I'd say it sounds about 1.5 - 2.0 better than the VC6Q.

Okay, it costs half again as much as the VC6Q, so is it worth it? Well, for the same price, I can get a Mindprint Envoice, and I like the sound of ithe Envoice better...

Also, call me a new-fashioned kinda guy, but I don't like that VU meter on the VC1Q. Gimme little lights in a row any day. :D

H O W E V E R... rest assured that while I have my hands on this sucker, I'm using it to get lotsa tracking done LOL.

Hmmm...

Not such a bad idea... You dream it, they build it... Sounds like a job for DaviSound... And at a damn nice price too!
