So, Funny story - but please excuse any ignorance on my part, I'm a complete no0b in recording generally.
I've had some sound problems for quite a while. My sound will randomly stop working, and when I open my "Control panel - sound devices" everything will be grey, and it will say "No sound device".
So, my computer savvy friend decided to help me and open up my computer.
This friend also gave me his old sound card about 3 years back - and upon closer inspection we realized I had never taken advantage of this sound card. I was using an internal one, and had never installed any drivers - so this card was just sitting in a CPI(sp?)(or general ?) port.
Turns out the port was bad, we moved it to another one and installed the proper drivers - and I have to say, I really can notice a difference!
It even fixed my left speaker temporarily (my left and right speaker continually switch out, only rarely both working at the same time)
okay, I'm getting side tracked.
So, new sound card - awesome. But Upon opening cubase I'm faced with an error message.
"Impossible to record audio because the audio input is not active.
Open the ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Setup dialog. Make sure that a device is selected in the input ports section and that it's check box is activated."
Planning on buying a fast track pro tomorrow, and I'm real excited about being able to record audio. (VST instruments haven't grown on me yet)
Just hoping some other people here have seen this error, and that getting a new soundcard isn't going to mess up my party tomorrow.
