Hey newbie here

I just downloaded some midi tracks or sounds (drum beats, piano) from the internet and unzipped them. The files are currently in .wav form. I have a Line 6 KB37 midi controller and audio interface.

Like each of the tracks are their own individual track (i.e. snare sound, kick sound) How do I fix it to where I can get all of these sounds so I can play them on my midi keyboard? Is there a process that I need to go through in order to get them to work?

I was thinking that since Abelton Live had some preloaded midi tracks that there would be a folder where I can put the ones i downloaded in there and it would magically appear with the rest of the files, but it seems like it doesnt work that way.

Hopefully whatever i tried to explain could be clear enough to understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!:)

Midi is note/controller information that has information on what to play and when so it would trigger an instrument, be it virtual or hardware--but the sound depends on where the midi information goes.

WAV files are an actual representation of the sound. If they are loops that repeat, you can put them into a clip slot in ableton. If they're a drum hit or an instrument sound, then they should be used in a sampler (impulse, simpler or if you've bought it--sampler.)

whats a sampler? is it a piece of hardware i need to purchase as well?

Is there any way to program these sounds to the recording program?

can you give me a tutorial on how to do it? i just got into midi stuff and have no previous knowledge so i'm not sure on what to do. thanks!

1) A sampler is something that can record and playback digitally recorded audio. So I guess I was using the term a little too loosly by referring to live's sample playback instruments such as impulse, simpler, and sampler.

The first samplers encounted in popular music/culture were hardware units. At one time I owned an Emu Emulator II, that was a great peice of gear despite its limited ram. It had great ssm based filter chips.

Computers can outdo hardware samplers these days. In essence live is a sampling wonderland in itself.

2) Sure

3) What version of Live do you have? You can find some good tutorials on ableton's website, as well as musictech
