im just starting out with home recording and im working on a TIGHT budget. ive fally saved enough to get either an EQ or a compressor. Which ons more important????

What kind of equipment are u using to record with?

Why so mad?? (your icon)

I would go with a compressor - try the RNC ($200) - check it out here http://www.mercenary.com

Unless you're trying to fix a specific problem, EQ won't do as much for ya in the short term... the compressor will allow you to smooth out vocals and bass lines...

Besides, for decent outboard EQ you really need to buy a good one - the cheapies do more harm than good... IMO!

Go with a Compressor.
The RNC is a good one.

Or, if you want one with "somewhat of a gate" on it, check out the dbx #166a (Goes for around $250-$300, but I've seen them as low as $230)

Also Behringer has the Composer PRO which goes for around $190 or so.

Behringer also has the "Auto Com" which goes for around $150.
And Nady has a stereo Comp/gate which is going for around $130 at Musician's Friend.
