I'm not a newbie by any definition of the word, but I thought it the best place to post as it's that sort of problem, and it's new to me.

After many years of using Cubase, for the first time ever (yes, really!), I imported a midifile into C5, but was surprised that it automatically loaded Halion One. But I don't want to use GM crap, I want to assign my own VSTi's.

I can select an instrument from a pop out list (rather than the F11 option), but I'm stuck with standard track/channel numbers, and the whole thing works differently - including the Inserts option!

How can I import a midi file which doesn't load Halion?
