I have a Tascam DP-01 that only has 1/4" mic/line inputs on it. I want to get a good mic but obviously I can't just plug it in without some kind of impedance matching transformer. Would getting one of these be the best way to go? I've heard that I can also use a mixer's L and R outs to connect it to my Tascam but I'm not too sure about that. I would only be micing vocals and possibly guitar (if that helps at all). :)

if you are looking at condenser mics than you would need to have a phantom power supply in most cases. You can use a mixer in front of th tascam, that would probably be the most economical way of both getting a pre and phantom power. or I would recomend just getting a 2 chan preamp of some nature. Using a Lowz to Hiz impedence transformer would probably not be the best way to go.

Yeah, I actually wanted to get a preamp instead of a mixer. But can I hook a condenser mic up to the preamp and then the preamp to the Tascam without an IMT? I'm not sure if I could just use the 1/4" out on the preamp.

yes you can. I don't believe that the input on the tascam is balanced so use a regular instrument cable preferably as short of a length as possible. that will work fine for your purposes

I have a xlr to 1/4 converter for sale there over 20$ in the store. I dont think you will lose impendance on it, not sure tho let me know if your intrested

The converter would not work for him because he needs phantom power for his condensor mic. God damn the pusher!

Awesome! Thanks so much for the info. :D That's exactly what I'm going to do.
