Hey all!

I have googled and googled all day (and night) for an answer to this problem, and I have no idea what my solution is (I refuse to give up!).

I have an iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.6) and a Tascam DM-24. The Tascam mixer was given to me with a MOTU 2408 mk1 interface which the MOTU website says needs a PCI expansion card to operate (though when this was given to me I was told it should plug directly in to the Firewire port on my iMac, since obviously the iMac has no PCI slots).

Now, I am trying to record one of the bands that practices in my basement. I have done multi-track recording before, though this is the first time I have used such advanced gear. My question:

Is there an easy way to connect the Tascam DM-24 to my iMac to allow for multiple input tracks at once?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If I understand correctly, you can get a IF/FW-DM card for the Tascam (if it doesn't have it already). If you do this, it should to up to 16-in, 16-out (or various other combinations like 24-in, 8-out) via FireWire.

The MOTU, however, cannot connect via FireWire. AudioWire and FireWire are not related protocols even though they use the same connector/cable.

Alternatively, you could sell the 2408 and buy an 828MK3 or an 8Pre that does connect via FireWire.
