I'm thinking about installing SIR

GO PACKERS!
I've been hearing nothing but good stuff about it.
Does it really stackup to the "good" reverbs?
Are there any pitfalls in using it?
I'm really not that excited about my present reverb plugs and would like to get something better, but I don't want to install a bunch of demo's on my very clean computer.

Thanks.

it is good

but you have to also download impulse files which need to be un "zipped" but they are .rar files needing a utility that you can get at same site as the impulses (free) be prepared to increase latency a bunch to get it to work.

it is much more straight forward to get good sound than lexicon in sonar 3
note- in the mixing forum here there is a very good direction for getting sounds f/other reverbs etc (i think he is ~sounusman or something like that-i suggest you download his post and study it as i am

Acid - I assume you know SIR is VST, not DX.

I downloaded it several months ago, but never used it as I don't have a VST to DX adapter.

-------------
BTW, does Sonar 3.0 come with the VST adapter?? Or do you still have to buy it separately?

And while we're on the (changed) subject. How long did it take them to ship S3. I ordered it over the weekend, and still haven't received any notice of shipment.

I got my S3 in about two weeks direct.

The only pain in the butt with SIR is that it cannot be used in real-time. I find my system, P4 1.8 needs about 25msec latency before SIR behaves.

Also it is more suited as a bus effect as opposed to a track effect.

I think it poos all over the Pantheon and Sonitus reverbs, although without the benefit of some of the more prosaic reverb parameters and commands.

:) Q.

Dachay - make sure you update to 3.1.1 to get the full plugin delay compensation.

Yeah, I actually tried to download the updates in advance, so I would be ready once it arrived. However, it wouldn't accept my 2.0 serial number. So I guess I have to wait until 3.0 get's here.

Silly Rabbit, thanks for the info. on the VST adapter. That is great news, and makes the $79 upgrade price even more of a bargain.

Once I get some hours on 3.0 under my belt, I might give SIR a spin. I'll let you know how it behaves on my new, 2.8 GHZ, 1 Gig memory system. :)

BTW, Q, most reverbs perform better on a Aux Bus. The Waves reverbs, e.g., are specifically designed to be used that way.

SIR is the sh!t just not flexible with its parameters... at least in the older releases...haven't tried the newer ones...cuz i got the waves IR :D

Sorry I did'nt get back sooner,I got booted off by the "too many users" message yesterday.
Sir keeps coming up on a lot of forums,it's free, and it almost sounds too good to be true. The only bad things I've heard are the CPU/latency issues. But what the hell,if it's free and sounds better than what I have, I may as well give it a spin.

I've downloaded it and a bunch of impulses and will test it out this weekend....cool!

A little off topic, and apologies to AR for taking his thread in a different direction. . .

Got my copy S3 tonight. I will say my initial impression is that this might be the biggest change since PA9 went to Sonar 1. Spent 20 minutes or so with it. The new Bus routing is not immediately intuitive, and I wasn't expecting the look to have changed as much as it did.

Need to download the patches, and then I'll spend some time with it over the weekend. I *think* I've got the handle on the Bus routing, but I need some hours behind the wheel first to be completely sure.

Haven't yet figured out how to set the default number of Vmains (do they still call them that) and Aux Buses. It seems that it defualted to the settings I had in S2, but I don't see where to change them. I see I can add additional VMains by right clicking, but I don't see where the defaults are set.

This is exactly what I wanted - now I just need to figure out how to use it. :)

And hurry it up,so you can tell the rest of us how it works.....slacker! :p

I downloaded it (and a bunch of impulses) for a week ago and have finally got the reverbs I've been looking for a long time...:-)

I really love that I can "record the reverb" (read: take the impulse response) of a room I find good sounding, and use it in a mix!

It's even more exciting than getting my first digital camera! :)

hmmm...I havn't tried out that yet (don't know how) but I have a digital camera that I use alot... http://www.h-musikk.no/fotoalbum_studio.htm

To capture impulse responses, I use WinMLS.

Download the latest beta version, fill out the form and get 30 days free evaluation. Remeber to specify that you want an unlock code for the Beta version. :)

Well I installed Sir,along with Crystal synth and Guitarsuite.
Sir has'nt been real cooperative to this pont and I guess I'll have to work with my latency settings.Mixdown only at this point it seems.I'm going to try different impulses and see what difference this will make.

Because of the latency in SIR I think you can only use it in mixdown...

I was hoping between the plugin delay compensation and having CPU to spare I could get it to play by my rules but....

I'm living in a 2.9ms world,and I really hate to leave it.:(

I do that too. Input Monitoring and SIR don't work togheter.... :(

But what do you really expect from a totally free plugin? ;)
