Come on folks, send those studio pics in! Don't feel ashamed or embarrassed! Man,if I could send in pics of my half-planned,basement-bargain,mini studio project compared with Brian's and John's ultra-professional,1st rate and meticulously constructed sound rooms, then you good people can do the same!
Now cut the crap and send them in!

Yo MisterQcue - yeah comme on guys where are the pics - I'm currently waiting for Emeric's pics that he promised he'd send....:)

Yes - mine has grown into the full monty but learn from it - that's why I put it up ;)

cheers
John :D

I,m trying to find a friend with a digital camera or a scanner.I have only recently come into the computer-age so it takes me awhile to figure digital things out.
G.

All you guys who are waiting for use of digital cameras and
scanners...You're LIARS!! :) I took my pics with a $10.00 disposable camera and had it scanned at Kinko's Film Processors for $3.00 for 10 pics on a floppy disc! There are
many film processing centers that scan pics for that price or cheaper! So come on. Let's get a move on!
Peace!

Way to motivate MISTERQCUE! I'm hardly one to speak though :) I havn't updated in a long time. But I just started night school, so all the time I was working on the studio is now taken up with school. I work my full time job and then after that I'm off to school until 10:30 at night. We havn't even developed the latest roll of film.
I wish I had the time John does to do this stuff damnit! :)

-Brian

Hi Misterqcue,

I intend to as soon as I put it back together.
I just got new Carpet YEAH!!
It's killer looking.
I was building a table to put everything on (Me entire system is essentially rackmounted in 2 racks, and I want to use my racks to put my Power amps back into, so I started to build a Table.
Well, After spending all day planning cutting and sanding-I started screwing it together.
I predrilled everything, and the Damn wood started splitting on me.
Needless tosay, I was PISSED!
Man, I wasted several hours trying to do this, along with the Money I paid for the wood.
I still have the top that I'm gonna use (It's a 43"x28" Solid Wood DOOR, the top and sides are covered in White Formica.
My PC is on the other side of the room, and whenever I want to put something on the PC-I have to run a Mic Cable over here and hook up to the PC-now, I'm wanting to just put it all together, like I should have in the first place.

Tim

U got it MR.Q!!

I will take my pics and send it,
ha! you will know how clever I am...
and where I sleep :D

(I will beg for gear too...)

also,

I THINK THAT THE HIT WAS A HOMERUN, and then %&·%&· with the ·%&$·· out in home...

chhers from México.

Prov, I was more upset with Armando Benitez's failure to get
the last 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning! The Mets were leading 3-2 with 1 out and he loaded the bases and allowed the tying run of which those hated-Yankees scored the winning run in the bottom of the 12th.
I also thought it was home-run, but replays indicated that
the ball hit the TOP of the wall making it a ground rule
double, and Timo Perez's lack of hustle around the bases eventually led to his being thrown out at the plate! DAMN!
Please say a prayer for my Mets 2-nite!
Peace
Mr.Q

LIARS !?!?

OK,OK already MrQ.I promise to either beg, borrow or steal a camera so that you and everyone with the gift of sight can see my messy construction area.BUT only if YOU promise to walk me through the steps of sending the pics to the right location. As I said before,I dont really know what the hell I am doing when it comes to computers.

Ginzoo, either send them to John, or me. Preferebly John. What mail program are you using? All you have to do, is once you've typed your message, or before for that matter, hit "attachments" and select the files from wherever you put them on your computer. Once you have them all selected and attached just send the e-mail like normal.
If you can figure out how to sign up for this billboard, if you can figure out how to sign up for the internet, if you can build a studio for God's sake... you can send pictures through e-mail :) It's not magic.

Tim... Why didn't you get solid wood? You probably got hard board... which is what cheapo entertainment centers are made of. Get some REAL wood. Right now we're putting together the finish wood in the window sills and for the doors. It's 3/4" solid oak, and it's NICE. :) I can't wait to take it back out once it's assembled and stain it.

Later guys,
-Brian

PS - We're probably going to change the name of our band from Greys to something else... so for everyone who's known me as "Brian Grey", that may change... I'll probably keep this name though for the BBS. The website will eventually change as well... just my band's site, not the studio site.

Nah Brian, I was being Cheap and bought Pine.
They didn't have any oak in any sizes that I could use-it was all in 1"x10" or 1"x12"-and I was just trying to build a "frame" to set the top on.
It's what I get-I'm low on cash right now, and was in a hurry-I don't have a table saw anymore-otherwise I would have just bought the Oak 1x12's, and ripped it myself.

Why change the name? Greys is a pretty good band name!
Of course-I could see if you don't want the band and Studio called the same-but the logo is awesome.

Tim

names... words... ahh...

""Why change the name? Greys is a pretty good band name!

The biggest reason we want to change our name is because of confusion. For 3 years now, everytime we've told someone our name we've had to explane what it means, or how to spell it so they don't think it's cows graizing in a field. For all you here at this BBS, and people on the internet, it's pretty easy to see what it is, but if you say it to someone it's a bit different.
The other reason we'd like to change the name is because we've kind of outgrown the name. Like I said, we've been together for 3 years now, and we're back to just Dan and I... not much of a band. We're getting new members right now and this would be the time to change, our style is probably going to change a little bit anyway.

Not sure if we're going to keep the name "Greys Studio" or not. :) Whatever we do it will be cool, so don't feel upset or anything. hehe.

We are keeping our logo/symbol for our band even with the change of name.

-Brian

Hey, I was gonna take pictures of my studio anyway, cuz I'm thinking of putting up posters. But first I need to clean up shipping boxes and other useless trash that takes up room and makes it look nasty.

Anywhoo, who do I send dem to? Or where do I upload dem?

I'll have to toss up a picture or two of mine as well... Well, I'm still playing around with doing some recording in it - it is mostly my fiancee's practice studio, but we're playing around with recording her, etc for mp3.com and so forth, so I guess that counts...

I have to say that Auralex foam rocks - I was planning on doing it myself, but after talking to people in here I went out and bought the real stuff and it sounds damn nice in there. Not worried about sound escaping so much as the echoes - it was a REALLY live room, but now we've had two jazz trumpet players wailing in there and it sounds great - and doesn't deafen you. THANKS everyone! The foam on the wall looks pretty cool, too....

Sounds quite nice recorded too... not DEAD (though you really hear it when you walk in the door - suddenly, your voice gets really quite quiet... really cool) but nice.

Hopefully, I'll have some pics (and some mp3's for the mixing clinic) in a while....

OldGrover

Go for it Old Grover - send them to me with something I can write about i.e. description of each pic - include a pic of yourself as well

Cheers
John :)

I built my studio about 3 years ago ... but the construction is never really done, is it? :)
I still have major acoustics work to do and ventilation and some wiring (as always).
New computer with scanner should be delivered tomorrow. I'll take some photos and join you guys on the site if that's ok.

Of course it's ok. As long as we're not running out of room... but I think John has solved the space problem by mirroring the site somewhere else... I don't know, that's his thing.
The site seems to be getting some attention, which is very cool. Just the last time I looked it was at 997 hits, next time I check it will probably be passed 1,000. It's funny, I havn't even had more than 20 people actually walk through the studio in real life, but tons more than that have SEEN it :)

Old Grover... I know exactly what you mean by walking into the room and thinking "oh... wow, that's neet...". First time I put it up on a wall I went up to it and spoke into it it was like putting my ear up to a hellium (spelling?). It sounds real neet. And it definately looks NICE.

As you know,I'm constructing a iso-vocal booth. I want ABSOLUTELY DEAD acoustics as I will be using my DSP for 'verbs, chorus etc.. I prev'ly asked if I should carpet this room and was informed that this would not contain the low end bass frequencies.
Question:
Though a wooden foundation seems perferred(sic?),can 1 use
basic plain floor tiles?. Booth is big enuff for small 3 piece band but to be basically used for vocals.
As I am constructing on the cheap, what would overall be the
best,acoustically,(and financially)for the floor/foundation.
Carpet,wood,tiles or another choice?
Thx
Mr.Q
