I am planning on buying an up to date imac, an Mbox and will also need a compressor mic and some studio monitors to record mainly acoustic stuff. I want to be able to achieve the type of quality recordings that can be handed to a proffessional to master.

Figured a reconditioned imac. 2nd hand Mbox 2 with protools 8 but know nothing of compressor mics. Can anyone advise me. I'm thinking 2nd hand and spending about £150. Also Could I get away with spending £100 on some 2nd hand monitors?

Would really appreciate people sharing their knowledge with me!

hey there, and welcome!

you can edit your posts if you make a mistake :)

if you want professional results, i guess you'll probably get a lot of people saying that you'd be better served saving up your money and investing in gear that you are less likely to outgrow.

£100 on monitors wont go very far, and to be honest, you'd probably have just as good results using a pair of hifi speakers that you know well..

Also worth noting that £1000 on monitors is still not going to guarantee you better monitoring, because monitors are probably equally as important as the environment that they're in.
Try having a look around for monitoring room treatment suggestions on the forums.

is there a reason that you want to use protools, is it purely on the name?

if you are familiar with it, then that's cool, but if you're just going on reputation, i'd recommend that you reconsider.
There are cheaper alternatives that will do the same job.(search the forum for reaper)

Hope this is a helpful start for you!

Best of luck.

Thank for your reply

The reason I want protools is because the other member of my band uses it and it means we can take each others work home with us so it needs to be compatible. Is there a way round that? If so, is it simple? I'm going to be teaching myself (I've so far just used garageband and watched other people in the studio) The reason I want to get set up is that I have alot of time on my hands and want to get stuck into doing some writing and recording
