I thought it would be a fun hobby for the family...

All I know how to do is record a guitar track and a vocal track. They can be heard thru the amp or earphones. When I add other tracks they (all) can ONLY be heard thru the earphones. What am I doing wrong? I'm a novice that thought I could learn it thru the manual. No.

Then I need to know how to mix a master and record on a CD-R. I think I can also add sound effects, too? Drums? How do you work this thing???

Anyone with knowledge about this stuff? I'd happily settle for one thing at a time.

Ben

Open the manual again, there's simply too many questions here about a particulary device that only a small percentage of people own. It's almost like saying, I have a Cessna, how do you fly it?

Read the FAQ's on the Tascam website, join their forum specifically for your 2488. Test out each instructional example from the manual. Ask the salesman who sold it to you for a better demonstration. So much to learn......

That's easy.

Well, actually I know how to fly a Cessna 150 and 172. Apparently, you don't know about the Tascam. Sarcastic people are easy to find. Ones that can help are who I'm looking for. Thanks for your witty response, though...

ah yes, the 2488 mk II

I bought the 2488 mkII about a week ago, have done a few individual tracks, am to the point where i need to figure out how to synchronize (that may not be the right word i'm looking for, sorry) a bass track with a guitar track. (As in recording the bass to match the timing of the guitar track. (?)

As far as one of the original questions on this thread as to mastering and burning a cd, i've made it that far and its not too complicated. Once you have the material down that you want to burn, you have to set an OUT POINT at the end of the material you got. (See Owner's Manual for OUT POINTS). Next you have to ensure that the track(s) the material is on is assigned to the Sub. (Press the SUB Select button & See Owner's Manual. After you have the tracks assigned to the sub you can go onto the premaster stage, by pressing the MASTER. When in PreMaster mode, you can then record the Master (unless you get an error message about either material is too short or there is no OUT POINT). Go Back to the beginning of the track, (00:00:00:00:0), hold record and press play, you will see both the play and REC lights, and you will hear your track being played back. When it reaches the OUT POINT, the recorder automatically stops, hence the master is made! You might want to save it at this point.

Now you can burn it to a disk, go Menu--Audio CD--CD Writer, place a disk in, and select from the list what you want to burn.

Hopefully this was helpful, I'm not very good at either operating the 2488 MK II or explaining myself, I've only had it for about a week and have millions of questions myself. The Owners Manual is quite helpful for the Mastering operations and burning a cd, I suggest going step by step for that.

I just got one a couple of weeks ago and it reminds me of learning to use any program from Microsoft. Tons of features and options, many of which you will never use, but after some time fooling around, you can get a very good result.

I actually downloaded the manual from the website and printed it off. This saves wear and tear on the manual that came with it, as I am constanlty flipping back and forth.

I also found it helpful to just sit down with the entire manual and read it top to bottom, then go back to the machine.

Hope this helps.

You might want to start by listening to one while you play the other.

I have been a 2488 user since they 1st came out. I have since come up with a "Home guide to the 2488", basically it covers areas of operation left out of the 2488 manual (which is a lot) plus short cuts and run a rounds to many of the functions. Please feel free to check it out and let me know what you think.
