man i'm trapped here, and the only place that has recording gear is stocked with art, and behringer. i asked about joe meek, and they never heard of the brand. one other place in town has mostly musical equipment and they swear that there peavey mixers are the best thing out there under 3 grand. by the way i'm not from here, i'm stationed here:(

Mail order! If they sell Peavey it will be the best. If they sell Alesis it will be the best.. Mail order is an option but it is always nice to try before you buy..

try before you buy

that is the thing, i don't have that option here, and i hate to wait on things to come in the mail, but it seems as though it's a necessary evil at the time. thanks for the insight.

See I used to have the same problem until we got a few more stores around here. I used to have to settle on what the local store carried.. Sucky thing.. Don't spend the money if it isn't what you really want..

cool

i have to develop a little patience for mail order. thanks

For studio gear, you can work by phone with places like Full Compass and MacMidi, who know their stuff...rather than resorting to MF and AMS. IT can be a good experience if dealing with the right people.

Smallville? isn't that where Superboy lives? couldn't you ask him to fly you to a nice music store?

pretty good

i was wondering if anyone would catch on to that . thanks for the laugh.

Jugalo,
Wacha looking for ? There are a lot of people around here with gear. Maybe you can test some of it before you order. Depends on what you need though.

What is it that you dont like about your Art ?

Try Sweetwater. They have pro quality gear, knowledgable staff, great service, and can usually match prices.

Really? They wouldn't do it for me. Maybe they'll only match prices if the prices are higher than theirs! :p

I sent the same email, requesting prices on some Studio Projects mics, to half a dozen dealers. I was about to order from Humbucker Music, when I got an email from Sweetwater with a higher price. I wrote back saying, sorry, I have a lower price from someone else. They wrote back and cut it by $10.

Plus, I've found their service to be great.

yep, that's exactly who it is. they told me that they would beat any advertised price on gear if i showed proof, so brought them a printout from two different websites with toll free numbers, that listed way lower prices. the guy said he couldn't match that because it wasn't from a catalog. what the hell ever. my gear is limited because i can't try anything out to see if i like it before i buy it. thanks everyone for the links

I'm glad they are fulfilling your needs. I've written extensively on my interesting experiences with Sweetwater - no sense rehashing it all.

Bottom line, was that when they gave me a list of "guaranteed once-in-a-lifetime" prices, when I called a local pro audio dealer and asked for their prices on the same gear (without telling them it was a "contest") almost every piece of gear was quoted as being 10%-15% lower than Sweetwater. And this was their "regular" price vs. Sweetwater's once in a lifetime sale price.

When I reported back to my "sales engineer" (and I was very polite) I not only got no offer to match the prices, but was accused of "wasting his time".

My feeling is, if the once in a lifetime prices at Sweetwater aren't as good as the local "regular" prices, and there's no way a mail order firm can match a local firm for service... then why bother?

littledog,

I didn't want to launch a debate with you about Sweetwater. You have had a bad experience with them. I had a good experience. I'm sure that can be said for just about any store.

I agree with you on the local store issue. I wish I had a local store where I could buy these things, especially one with good prices. I believe in supporting your local merchants if possible.

Is smallville another name for this town ??

But they have a nice catalog. Looking at that catalog is like a kid looking at a toys r us catalog before Christmas. :)

Full Compass is the same way.
