I'm really embarrassed for asking because being a drummer for so long, I should already know this this but I'm need of your input. I have a nice Tama Granstar II double bass kit that I'm going to be selling. I wanna scale down a bit to a more "realistic" kit. I don't need two bass drums but I do want a nice tom range (maybe starting with an 8" tom). I also know that I want a lacquer finsh as opposed to a wrap. This will probably be one of my last kits I ever purchase for myself so I want it to be very nice.

The shells that I have now are birch and though they have some punch, they're not capable of giving me the warmth that I'm after. I'm actually considering switching to Pearl drums. I'm a bit confused about their product line though. What is the order they go in terms of quality (best to worst)?

All I know is that I don't want Exports or Stage Customs as I'm pretty sure those are the lower lines. Is Masters Series the highest quality they make? My budget for SHELLS ONLY is going to be around $1800.

Am I being realistic? If not, what can I expect to pay(roughly) for say a 6 pc. set without snare? I haven't bought a new set in over ten years so I'm a bit out of the game.

When I say "My last kit", I mean that it'll be the last kit I buy, not have. I'm embarking on a journey to build a couple of set through drummaker.com. I'll try making a couple of kits but a project I want to work on is to build a replica of the kit Neil Peart use to use in the Moving Pictures era.

Thanks for you input!

Stage Customs are Yamaha.

For Pearl, it looks like it goes (from cheapest up)

www.pearldrum.com is a great link and they have their own forum where you can talk to other pearl users.

PUNKINATER drums are the shit!! it would be the last kit youd ever need.

For shells only, you could probably hit under the $1800 mark, depending on sizes, with the Pearl Session Customs (all maple and insane lacquer finish).

Massmusic.net sells all their Pearl stuff at exactly 50% off list. They are the only people I would ever even consider buying Pearl items from (great deals on cymbals too).

I think that is the first NEGATIVE numbered feedback rating I've ever seen!

Yeah, that's pretty funny- I didn't notice that! I always make sure and cover my ass though on any ebay deal over $100.

oh yeah, the website didn't even mention those. Maybe I didn't scroll down enough. Oh well, it's obvious he wasn't interested in that low-end.:D

How much ya pay? Seems like the Vistalites are collectible and demand high dollar especially when in good shape, and doubly when in amber color, which Bonham used for a while, but I think is butt ugly.

We had a set of clear Vistalites at my Jr. High, and I loved them. They had Remo hydrolic heads, and had a great tight rock tone to them. I'll pick a set up someday if the price is right, but I want clear or blue.

Mine were $1600 USD...(Shipping to Canada Incl)..... They are blue... I am very picky and I bought a kit that basically looks fresh outta the box.... Some guy in the 70's bought it and took care of it.. No scratches on the shells, rust on the hoops or nothing, practically new looking..

You can get beat up kits for $799 and up....

I bought from a reputable dealer that only deals with the Vistalite line... They have practically every colour combination that was ever produced...Offer great guarrantee's too.

I agree Bonhams were buttttttt ugly!... can't stand the amber ones.. In fact, I only like the blue ones..

Ever hear about the time Keith Moon had a Vistalite kit and filled the floor tom with water and put goldfish inside?????

It actually happened! I should see if I can find the pics.

Anyways... Sorry to highjack the thread with the acrylic drum chat.... I'm sure it's not what Rushfan is looking for... LOL

Didn't you get some Session Customs recently? He probably wants to hear your thoughts on those which is what I have and recommended to him!
