For $600 I will hook you up with an apprenticeship in my studio.

I run it out of my basement. It is one room and mostly just a bunch of prosumer gear. I have never made any platinum, gold, or any other recognized albums for that matter. I can barely even get a decent sound out of the stuff I have. You will learn nothing. In fact, I will learn more from you.

Make sure you know where your $700 is going.

This sounds a lot like tales I 've been told by " artist" such as.... The artist has to pay the studio 5 grand for a recording that the studio will shop around and attempt to get band a record deal. I have heard this twice in my studio. It's like, you just bought a 5,000 dollar session and thats all.

just let your work speak for itself, if you've had 10 other satisfied customers, then this 1 is NOTHING... seriously don't worry about it, ignore it, and don't get in a flame war. if your work is good and reasonably priced, feel good about yourself.

Old fashoned apprenticeship is unfortunately almost a thing of the past these days, for two reasons; the declining number of big studios and the fact that the schools like Full Sail and SAE are buying up all the apprenticeship positions for their graduates.

As far as musicconnection.com goes, I could not find where they make that offer. But I'd say this, I wouldn't give anybody a dime until I saw - at minimum - a certified list of the studios in their hookup network along with a guarantee that the studio will indeed meet certain expectations as far as just what the apprenticeship will entail. Preferably, I'd not give them the money until the hookup with a particular studio is actually made. But I wouldn't give *anybody* money for anything before I knew just what I was buying. There's a word for that: foolish.

I had 3 kids come to my studio wanting to "intern". They were students at local collage for audio. They all did not know their ass from their elbow in terms of recording science. They also were not too motivated and I had to instruct them in the most basic tasks.....like if band member is struggling to bring in drum trap case and you are doing nothing...HELP HIM!

It might be me, but it seems like younger people are lazier these days.

I remember being 17 years old and knowing that I would not be going to college, and forcing myself to go the extra step at work, even if I was just as exhausted as the next guy. That set me apart from the other slackers.

I have a pretty damn good job making pretty damn good money, mostly because of that mentality, I'd like to think.

kids have it different. and the parents have it different.

when ENRON or TXU blacks out the citys, for example, we used to have wood furnaces, ovens..or even coal....so nobody went without heat as they do now.

so for kids, yeah they have Illegal Immigrants taking all the "kids" jobs at least what I'm seeing with all the kid's around my house hitting 15,16...

the old people can't afford to retire due to medicne prices and insurance, so they don't leave the workforce either...again taking jobs the "kids" used to fill.

what will they do?
hopefully go to college and get in a field that has jobs.

it will be tougher for them in that sense.

I think, the quality of life, with pc's, fast food, air conditioning, HDTV and many material things are better. and they are brought up in a FAST PACE...
so they move quicker and want things faster.

didn't mean to jump in...but thats 2 cents on kids to throw in the pot!!.

From the kids I run into I don't think they're more lazy. Some are lazy. Some aren't. It's just who you run into, I suspect. I do think they're more wary though, and with good reason.

Geez, Willis, you're turning into a grumpy old man just like the rest of us past the age of Logan's Run .

But I agree that there is a lot of Napster Syndrome in the young'uns these days. A sense of entitlement that I think is at least in part due to the higher standard of living.

I hate to sound like Abe Lincoln talking about having to hike 10 miles through the snow barefoot to get to school...especially since I didn't because my high school was about a half mile away from where I lived . But I drive past that same high school today, and even though the number of students in that school is roughly the same as when I went there (I still get the alumni newsletters), things are entirely different at the end of the school day. When I went there there'd be 13 busses lined up at the enterance and about 150 old used cars in the parking lot. Now there are two busses and there are four parking lots with about 800 cars, almost none of which are more than three years old. And half the kids aren't even old enough to drive yet.

Who needs to work when everything is given to you? And what's not given to you you can just steal over the Internet?

Now, not all the kids today are like that; I know a fair share that are kids of neighbors or friends who were brought up well and know how good it feels to earn stuff for themselves. But they sure seem to be in the minority.
