No to all. First, remembering 3 years ago 1 session is a bit hard. I looked at these guys web site and they dont even look familiar. The 1 hour? No clue what that is about. Unless they wanted material backed up? I would charge for that and they would not have been present. Lost bass track? How could I have lost a bass track on a song and they only noticed it when they got home on their CD? I in those days always tracked to the HD24,not computer. Not like miss placing a wave file. And how is it you only notice a bass track missing at home. not in studio when we are doing a ruff mix ( with band present) for CD to take home? I always retured calls!

Then those people are total fools and you should pay no attention to them.

Do you believe in yourself? Are you really going to let one disgruntled custy (and only an alleged custy at that) throw you off? Hell, baby, no one can please everybody all the time and no one is liked by everybody. Shit, for good or bad, we have a president of a country that was only voted for by 49% of the population.

While I'd like to say that if this guy is indeed misrepresenting the facts about you, he's probably an unreliable jerk who's opinion people will take with a whole shaker of salt, and the issue will dry up and blow away, I can't. This is the Internet, the global petri dish in which bad information has a tendency to grow and multiply like bacteria on sugar if it's not nipped in the bud.

I wouldn't recommend getting into a shouting match with this bozo; however, I would defend my business' name if I were you and confront his accusations straight on. Something along the lines of what Tim Lawler mentioned above, but a little more business-like and diplomatic.

Be reasonable in tone, state your business operating policy as opposed to what he claims, and say that if indeed that did happen - which you have no recollection of - it's likely because they showed up late, acted unprofessionally, and signed off on a mix that a couple of days later they decided they didn't like. Actually the potential for that kind of crap happens all the time with amateur clients (make sure to make that implication, too.)

And if you've got happy, regular clients willing to testify as such on your behalf, ask tem for some testimony there as well; preferrably with no qid pro quo, but if you have to offer them a little deal on their next session to help convince them to step up, that's fine as long as thy're sincere about what they say.

Don't get depressed, jmorris, get challenged. And rise to the challenge.

Sounds like one of life's fun little quirks...

I'm a pleaser myself - I hate getting any sort of negative feedback, but its gonna happen - and if that's one of the scant few negative comments you've ever found, and you keep getting work, you must be doin somethin right :)

Let the anger run its course and go back to doin what you want to do!

I don't REALLY mean quiting! It just REALLY bothers me. I mean hey, bitch to me not A bbs. You know, thinking about it, I did have a guy working for me a little from time to time when I got busy or when it was stuff I did not want to do like hip hop or metal... Hum!

If you didn't do any of this stuff, why are you bothered? I'm not sure what the real issue here is, but I don't understand why this is affecting you.

It could be a mix up of studios with similar names?

If you know who he is, and you feel brave, you could take legal action.

Or just continue making cash and good mixes and forget about it.

band

Was the band even any good? Fuck those guys man. Bands suck. Id bet a million dollars the band sucked anyways. I could never be someone who records for a living. Mostly because i would refuse to be constantly upgrading equipment to stay in touch with what is "state of the art". But also because i hate bands and musicians 99 percent of the time. Always shitty tunes, always acting all proud of themselves even though they havent really accomplished anything artistically, and unwilling to take true risks.

Dont ever confuse the glory of "music" with the ridiculousness of "musicians". Music is great, musicians are a dime a dozen and mostly untalented and unartistic hacks who are just trying to get laid. And the music "style" they play always reflects the type of women they are trying to impress.

Dont quit over some morons, dont even get upset. Be proud that idiots dont like you. Its a sign that you are doing something right.

actually, 49% of the votes cast were for the president

if you counted all the people who don't/can't vote, i bet the number's a lot lower than that

Yeah, I sould have said "the voters" or "the voting population" instead of "the population", you're right. Anyway, the point remains the same.

Either the Supreme Court would have to decide the winner in a run off between Lindsay Lohan and the head programmer of Grand Theft Auto, or the Presidency would be open sourced and anybody could run the country under a GPL license. :D

Holy crap. Glen, that was actually funny.

I almost squirted beer out of my nose.

I'll suggest another possible series of events. You *did* record the bass, but the band has such a muddy sound that they can't actually hear it in the recording. So they naturally assumed that you lost it!

Kidding. Sort of.

I'm in sales for a living (no one will pay me to record or play guitar for a living), and I know what you mean in this thread. It's tough for someone to be unhappy with what you're doing - and it's hard to separate your business feelings from personal feelings. An insult against your studio feels like an insult against you - personally.

My only advice is to draw a line. Being silently angry or yelling back at this person will get you nowhere. I like to advice of posting a calm response on this other web site where you saw the comment. Just call the person's bluff, it will make you feel better to prove that they are just being unreasonable.
