I'm Clueless

I'm in a band that sounds similar to Green Day (Don't know if that matters) and we wanted to start posting some of our music on the web. So far we have an Apple laptop and two electric guitars with amps.. I need to know exactly what I should get.. I have absolutely NO idea.

How much money do you have to invest in this project?

Do you have a bass player and drummer as well? (Assuming bass and drums are part of the sound...)

To record anything you need:

Sound source (you guys...)

Microphone(s) (the type of mic that records an electric guitar cabinet well is not necessarily the type of mic that records a voice well)

Interface (to convert the mic sig to digital and power condenser microphones and provide monitor outputs)

PC (your laptop)

DAW

Monitoring


So far you only have the PC. Reaper is a cheap but good DAW. The rest depends upon budget.
 
Well you cam to the right place, start reading...
 
Either take a long time to do as much reading as you can, or get a handheld recorder and save yourself the misery.

And Arcadeko's well thought out piece puts meat on Armistice's bones. Figuratively speaking. You will be denying yourself a gallon of cold water in the desert if you don't read that.
