im bored with my mic.

i have a studio projects b1 and its just not recording my guitar amp very well.

suggestions on a new mic?

150$ limitish.

SM57 is bog standard for guitar amps

Without telling us what results you're already getting and what you'd like to achieve anything but the SM57 would be a shot in the dark
 
I could suggest many things to do with that mic if you're "bored" :D

But seriously folks... Get yourself a Shure Sm57 or Sennheiser e609 for close-miking then find a sweet spot for the B1 (start around maybe 3 ft. back) - blend the two tracks together and season to taste.

But before you start dumping money into gear: if you're bored, why not do a little experimenting? Try your amp in the corner, with the mic facing the ceiling... or the amp on a wood floor with the mic facing the floor... or at the bottom of the stairs with the mic at the top, etc... or whatever...

I'm not saying it will sound good or not, just saying you might find some interesting sounds to work with. Cheers, Rez

ATM 25 (a kick or large tom mic but it sounds great on cabs too)

Yeah. Most of us spend more time shopping than experimenting. Rez is right. Try playing around with location, gains, etc. Besides, it's a heckofabunch of fun! :D Dave

I would agree in some ways, but in another way I have to disagree.....

I've compared side by side takes of a guitar cab done with SM57, E609, D770, ND767, RE20, and ND468.......if you remove the RE20 just due to his price limit, then I can tell you from first hand experience that the ND468 smokes the other mics right outa the house.....

I'll third that recommendation. I have the Nady equivalent. The mic has a very different character than a LDC. Very smooth sounding highs, fairly flat overall response (particularly for the price), and it just generally sounds pleasant. I'm not sure how to describe it other than pleasant....
