Well, let me tell you my set-up. I play mostly an acoustic guitar that I line in to my pc. I figured out quickly that I needed a pre-amp, so I hooked up the old trusty Tascam 106. It works fabulous. to my amazement , better than live. My problem now is that when I use my mic thru this simple system I get hiss. My vocals are bad enough without it, my question is can I get rid of this hot mic problem with a vst plug in or should I just plug right into the mic in on the pc? I would like to keep everything plugged into the Tascam so I can just push some buttons the old fashioned way. Even when I turn down the levels I still get the hot mic thru the tascam, its just softer. When I line in the mic directly it seems ok, but not very loud, and I'd hate to keep switching wires around.

It sounds like you'd be better off with a dedicated mic pre.

You could try a hotter condenser mic to get better singal-to-noise ratio, I suppose.

The only plugin that I know of, currently, would be something like Waves X-noise, but you don't want to use that for music. Maybe dialog or something.

yeah, I think I need A new mic this one is an old aiwa I used to use for playing my harp. I bet a good old sm57 will fix it
